I have seen this done in different variations, but thought by position would be a great reference. So here you have it, the best fantasy seasons by position. I welcome your own nominations and would consider revising mine. Even now I would not be opposed to swapping Gehrig’s two seasons as well as Walter Johnson and Koufax. Good conversation piece before we head into Opening Day 2011 tomorrow. Enjoy!

Where would Hack Wilson’s 191 RBI season(1930) and Barry Bonds 73 HR(2001) rank in your book? Not enough RBIs for Bonds that year b/c he walked over 200 times? I have no clue how this fantasy thing works…
Hack’s season was incredible at .356/146/56/191/3, but even that doesn’t touch either of Babe’s two season above.
Yes, Bonds 177 BB killed him. His overall line was .328/129/73/137/13 – still no Ruthian season.
Oh, I got my Bonds seasons mixed up a bit…the 200+ walk season came a few years later.
Christy Mathewson’s 1908 season beats Koufax’s in wins era and whip, with just 3 more losses. not even close with k’s, but still in the discussion. Amazing how erratic koufax was until last 6 seasons, and how absolutely dominant he was from 62-67.
