Day games during the week are the best. Nothing like checking stats during the workday. Thankfully, Mondays always bring plenty of afternoon action to help get us through the day…
Rookie Brandon Beachy shut the Brew Crew down. He made one mistake and Rickie Weeks made him pay. In total, Beachy allowed just 5 baserunners, 1 run and struck out 7 over 6 innings. in 10-team leagues or more I’d grab him. May not fare as well in his next start vs. the Phightins but he has talent.
Believe it or not, the Orioles are 4-0 in no small part to their pitching staff. Today’s hurler, Jake Arrieta, went 6 strong allowing 8 baserunners, 1 run, striking out 3. He has the Rangers at home in his next start. Monitor.
Randy Wells was decent in beating the DBacks. He allowed 10 baserunners, 1 run, and struck out 6. Against a more potent lineup, more than 1 baserunner would’ve scored.
In his first start since 2009, Erik Bedard took a loss at the hands of the Rangers. Just a medicore outing, but the fact he actually pitched is noteworthy. Bedard ended the night after just 5 innings and 96 pitches, allowing 6 baserunners, 3 earned runs, while striking out just 3. He gets the Indians on Sunday and I’m starting him.
One of those ding dongs Bedard gave up was to Nellie Cruz. That makes 4 in 4 games. The guy is en fuego. If he can stay healthy, you’re looking at first round stats. Therein lies the rub.
