Fantasy MLB Spot Starting: 04.17.11

Welcome to the 3rd edition of  Spot Starting, if you missed our first couple posts, read herefor the explanation of how this works.  We also now have results from my first picks from Friday night, I’ll be keeping tabs on how my picks worked at below, and so far so good.

For games on Sunday April 17th these selected pitchers might be had in your league (less than 50% owned in Yahoo) with percent owned, team, and opponent:

Michael Pineda 46% (SEA) @ KC

Alexi Ogando 45% (TEX) @ NYY

Chris Young 34% (NYM) @ ATL  Likely to be scratched

Clayton Richard 32% (SD) @ HOU

Mark Buerle 19% (CWS) vs. LAA

Brian Duensing 18% (MIN) vs. TB

Fausto Carmona 17% (CLE) vs. BAL

My Pick: Michael Pineda at the Royals

Alternate: none

There is no lock today on the waiver wire, every guy listed above is a questionable start, so if you don’t absolutely need to add a start I’d stay away.  But I’ll wince and make a pick anyway and that is Pineda at the Royals.  The Royals have been playing good ball and are shockingly among the league leaders in Batting and Runs scored.  But they’ve never seen Pineda and that could be to his advantage and he is missing a lot of bats averaging almost 96 on his fastball.

Ogando’s blister issues and facing C.C. and the Yankees on national TV make  me want to stay away.  Young was on my radar but he may be scratched from his start due to the dreaded biceps tendinitis.

Results from Friday 04.15.11:

Aaron Harang – 6 IP, 3 H, ER, 8:1 not too shabby for my first pick, hopefully you picked him up and as Mike noted, he might be worth keeping around for at least one more start.

Season Results:

6 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 8K, 1BB, 1.50 ERA, 0.67 WHIP
