We’re off to a nice start here at Spot Starting, hopefully you’ve followed up on some of our picks and won your head to head match last week. By popular demand, we’ve added ESPN stats to go along with Yahoo! in the percent owned. I hope you’re also checking out Brian and Killboy’s Waiver Wire Gems as these should work hand in hand with Spot Starting in your fantasy arsenal.
For games on Tuesday April 19th these selected pitchers might be had in your league (less than 50% owned in Yahoo! or ESPN) with percent owned Yahoo/ESPN, (team), and opponent:
Carl Pavano 52%/30% (MIN) vs. BAL
John Lackey 45%/37% (BOS) @ TOR
Brandon Beachy 18%/6% (ATL) @ LAD
Jonathan Niese 11%/1% (NYM) vs. HOU
Randy Wolf 6%/16% (MIL) vs. PHL
Sam LeCure 5%/1% (CIN) vs. ARI
My Pick: Carl Pavano vs. Orioles
Alternate: Randy Wolf vs. Phillies
Deep League Special: Sam LeCure vs. Diamond Backs
Pavano is the clear play tomorrow and I’m really surprised he is only owned in 30% of ESPN leagues, I had him much higher rated going into the season and already own him. He’s coming off two straight 8 IP games and sports a career 2.75 ERA, 1.26 WHIP vs. Baltimore (1.06 / 0.88, .190BAA last year).
My alternate is Randy Wolf who has been striking out a ton of guys in the early going, though he has an unsightly WHIP. Wolf pitched very well in winning his game at Citizens Bank Park last year.
Our newest feature is the Deep League Special for you managers in those 16-20 team or NL/AL only leagues that have to dig a little deeper and be more creative; and the inaugural pick is Sam LeCure who has done a tremendous job while filling in for the injured Cueto and Bailey, if he keeps this up he’ll be a permanent fixture in the Reds‘ rotation.
Results from Sunday 04.17.11:
Michael Pineda – W, 6 IP, 3 H, ER, 5K, 4BB… Pineda was throwing some filth against the Royals and worked around 4 walks, allowing only 3 hits and a sac fly as the Mariners came back to beat KC.
19 IP, 2-0, 10 H, 2 ER, 19K, 6BB, 1.50 ERA, 0.84 WHIP
