Fantasy MLB Spot Starting: 04.20.11

Well all good things must come to an end, and our 3 game streak of good picks did so last night with Travis Wood.  But at least I didn’t have any money on it, right Killboy?

For games on Wednesday April 20th these selected pitchers might be had in your league (less than 50% owned in Yahoo! or ESPN) with percent owned Yahoo/ESPN, (team), and opponent:

Chris Narveson 45%/44% (MIL) @ PHL

Wade Davis 16%/51% (TB) vs. ChW

R.A. Dickey 25%/12% (NYM) vs. HOU

Erik Bedard 11%/4% (SEA) vs. DET

Bud Norris 11%/3% (HOU) @ NYM

Jon Garland 8% / 5% (LAD) vs. ATL

Charlie Morton 4%/2.5% (PIT) @ FLA

Bartolo Colon 3% / 0.4% (NYY) @ TOR

My Pick: Wade Davis vs. White Sox

Alternate: R.A. Dickey vs. Astros

Deep League Special: Bartolo Colon at Blue Jays

No slam dunks today as the best options like Narveson have an impossible matchup against Cliff Lee.  And you’ll note that Davis is for some reason 3 times more likely to be owned in ESPN leagues than Yahoo.  But Davis has fantastic splits against the Pale Hose, last year he was 2-0, 12.1IP, 8Ks, 2.19ERA, 1.05 ERA, .182 BAA.

Looking past Dickey’s 2 most recent starts he had good success against the Astros last year and pitches much much better at home than on the road, 1.99 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, .225 BAA last year in 11 starts.

In our Deep League pick, dust off the former Cy Young winner because he has owned the Jays in his career and has pitched very well at Rogers Centre.  Just don’t count on more than 6IP.

Names like our inaugural pick Aaron Harang, Justin Masterson and Zach Britton are inching above 50% owned so they’ve graduated from Spot Start status to places on fantasy teams.

Results from Monday 04.18.11:

Travis Wood – L, 3.1 IP, 8 H, 6 ER, 3K, 1BB… Wood got singled to death by the Pirates – call it a case of the BABIPs, it happens.  In hindsight, I should have gone with my hunch all the way and made Dice K my primary pick because he was fantastic turning in a W, 7IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 3K, 1BB line.

Season Results:

22.1 IP, 2-1, 18 H, 8 ER, 22K, 7BB, 3.63 ERA, 1.12 WHIP
