04.20.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

Of note, Mitchell Boggs and Drew Storen each converted save opportunities and Storen relieved Burnett in the 8th. Need a closer? Pounce.

Jed Lowrie – 2/4, R, HR, 2 RBI…Oops, he did it again. Another ding dong. Guy is en fuego! You have to pick this guy up. In most leagues he is 2B/SS-eligible.

Clay Buchholz – 5.1 IP, 6 H, ER, 2:4…Not great, but owners will take it. I still think you have to sell this guy.

Gio Gonzalez – 6 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 9:1…Oh!!!! His ERA has finally eclipsed his WHIP. Look at that, just one walk.

Rick Porcello – 6.2 IP, 4 H, ER, 6:1…He did this against SEA so don’t go dropping anyone for him, unless it’s Bedard who he beat.

Wade Davis – 7 IP, 6 H, ER, 2:2…As mentioned on the air, I like Davis but his drop in K rate is worrisome. If he has to rely on his defense and praying his flyballs don’t leave the yard, he’ll experience some correction. Nice, Jesse!

Matt Garza – 6 IP, 6 H, 9:3…Garza has been a strange case. Coming into this game his tERA was 3.34 while his ERA was 6.27. Maybe you can get him on the cheap?

Dustin Moseley – 6 IP, 5 H, 4:1…These Friar pitchers have been outstanding this season. I’m still not a believer. But I could be!

Aaron Harang – 6 IP, 9 H, 2 ER, 5:0…I am a believer in this guy. I just picked him up. He is now (4-0) with a 1.88 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. Better yet is his tERA coming into this game was leading the league at 1.69. He has now beaten the Cubs and ‘Stros on the road and the Dodgers and Giants at home. Add!

Alfonso Soriano – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…Now with 6 dingers and his average is about where it should be at .269.

Ryan Ludwick – 5/8, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB…Ludwick had a great double-header, but it only raised his average to .200. Yikes.

Vladimir Guerrero – 2/4, 2 R, HR, RBI…Vlad has now homered in two straight.

Bartolo Colon – 6.2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 7:2…Nice, Jesse!

Curtis Granderson – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…Grandy now with 6 homers, three straight games with a dinger and four in his last five. Yeah, he’s hot right now.

Jorge De La Rosa – 7 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 6:2…George of the Rose is now (3-0)  for the best team in baseball with a cake schedule coming up.

Seth Smith – 2/3, 3 R,2 RBI, BB…I just talked about him on The 4th and Home Show and he has not disappointed.

Troy Tulowitzki – 3/5, 3 R, SB…What else is new?

Jered Weaver – CG, 6 H, ER, 8:0…Guy keeps motoring through lineups as he is now (5-0) with a 1.23 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 39 K. So glad I drafted Hanson before him…

Howie Kendrick – 1/2, R, HR, RBI, 2 BB…6 home runs from Kendrick? Juicer!

Maicer Izturis – 1/4, RBI, BB, SB…This is a guy I’ve been monitoring, especially since he plays all over the field. Check out his stats and let me know what you think. I’ll wait.

Ian Kennedy – 5.1 IP, 4 H, ER, 3:2…Beat a great Reds team. For what it’s worth, the Redlegs have lost 6 of their last 7.

Jose Reyes – 4/5, R, 2 SB…Sell high, Mets!

Albert Pujols – 2/7, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB…Batting .243, but that just means a .400 month is on the horizon.

Colby Rasmus – 3/9, R, HR, 4 RBI…Yes, me likes me some Rasmus. What a steal he’s been.

Lance Berkman – 4/7, R, 2 RBI, 2 BB…Does he get 2 ribbies a night or what?

Danny Espinosa – 4/9, 3 R, RBI…Still sitting on a lot of waiver wires out there…

Laynce Nix – 2/5, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, SB…He’s still playing baseball?

Jaime Garcia – 5 IP, 4 H, ER, 4:2…(3-0) with a 1.44 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. Staying power!

Jeff Francoeur – 2/4, R, HR, 3 RBI, BB…Now batting .333 with 3 HR and 15 RBI.

Andre Ethier – 3/4, 3 R, HR, 2 RBI…We haven’t heard much from Ethier this year, but he’s now batting .384. Maybe the two extra base hits are a sign of things to come and we know what happens when Ethier heats up.

Juan Uribe – 3/4, 4 RBI…Doubled his RBI total in one night. Not the worst MI to have on your roster.

Jon Garland – CG, 4 H, ER, 4:2…The Braves stink, but Garland did look pretty good out there. Mattingly let him throw 108 pitches as he was afraid Broxton might blow the 5-run lead…
