04.23.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

Starlin Castro – 4/5, 2 R, 3 RBI, SB…The prodigy keeps on hitting. Sure he doesn’t walk much, but he doesn’t strike out much either.

Darwin Barney – 3/5, 2 R, 3 RBI, SB…Have not talked about Barney, but I think he’s worth monitoring about now. He’s batting .323 at a thin position (2B).

The Ted Lilly/Ryan Dempster Connection – 10 IP, 20 H, 12 ER, 6:4…Dreadful. Hope you didn’t start either of them. IMO Dempster should’ve been benched in all leagues until he starts showing something.

Brandon Morrow – 5.1 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 10:2…Fresh off the DL (he’s still on mine), Morrow showed us why he was hyped so much this pre-season. The guy is electric and looks to build on his nearly 18K/9 rate heading into his 2nd start at TEX. If he is somehow on your wire, I hope he’s no longer there. If he was owned, I hope you swooped in and bought low.

Jose Bautista – 3/3, 3 R, 2 HR, 2 RBI, BB, SB…The guy is a beast right now as he is absolutely shredding the Rays pitching staff. Now batting .371 with 7 HR and 10 RBI. Unreal as both shots were solo. He has to be on pace to set a record for solo shots in a season. Friggin BJays.

Dillon Gee – 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 5:1…Not recommending since Chris Young will be taking his rotation spot in just a few days.

Jason Bay – 2/4, R, HR, 3 RBI…Bay looking to prove his worth. Won’t happen, but I applaud his efforts.

Brian Duensing – 7 IP, 5 H, ER, 3:1…Talked about him Tuesday night as someone who is not owned in many leagues and probably should be.

Fausto Carmona – 5 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 1:4…Walks = runs for this guy. Said it countless times already. Too risky to plug in right now.

Denard Span – 2/4, 3 R, BB, SB…Scored 50% of his season run total in this game.

Chris Carpenter – 6 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 6:3…Was winning until Miguel Batista came in for the second straight game. Carp stuck at (0-2).

Brad Penny – 7 IP, H, 3:2…Wow. must think it’s 2007 or something.

Ryan Raburn – 2/3, R, 3 RBI, BB…Look out.

Tim Hudson – 8.2 IP, 9 H, 2 ER, 4:0…Two doubles to pat Burrell, seven singles and the Giants still couldn’t beat Hudson.

C.C Sabathia – 8 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 7:1…Now (15-2) all-time vs. the O’s.

Alex Rodriguez – 2/5, 2 R, HR, 6 RBI…A salami after the game was in the bag? Owners will take it.

Russell Martin – 2/3, 3 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI, BB…The resurrection continues!

Andrew McCutchen – 1/2. 3 R, 2 BB, 2 SB…All of his stolen bases coming out of the lead-off spot.

Jose Tabata – 2/2, R, RBI, BB, SB…Now with 9 SB as the average has cooled down quite a bit since being moved to the two-hole.

Alexi Ogando – 6 IP, 5 H, ER, 5:1…Looking legit as he cruised past the Royals.

Daisuke Matsuzaka – 8 IP, H, 9:3…Are you seriously kidding me? Dice-BB has been UNREAL these past two starts. STILL not buying it, but oh my damn this was great. In his last two starts he’s pitched 15 innings and given up just two hits and no runs. Killer!

Jacoby Ellsbury – 2/5, 2 R, 2 SB…He’s batting over .200 now!

Ryan Braun – 2/5, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI…Out of this world of late.

Hunter Pence – 2/4, R, HR, 2 RBI…Ever notice how some guys play exactly like their demeanor? Pence puts up the quietest stats. Guy is hitting .286 with 3 HR and 17 RBI and you’d never know it because he doesn’t have gargantuan nights. He’s just Mr. Consistency.

Trevor Cahill – 6 IP, 7 H, ER, 2:1…Vintage Cahill as he didn’t Doc Gooden everyone in this start. Now (3-0) with a 2.30 ERA and 1.02 WHIP.

Kevin Kouzmanoff – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI…Kouz struggling, but this was a welcomed sign for owners in the 20-team leagues out there.
