04.28.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

Ok, so if it isn’t bad enough for Killboy that he owns Gallardo and Liriano, I was perusing match-ups tonight and came across his pitching for the night. I see Ryan Dempster’s ERA at 189.00 and WHIP at 24.00.
Shazam that has to be a record. I have never seen anything like that before in fantasy baseball. It’s the craziest thing I’ve seen since I had Clinton Portis go off for 200+ yards and 5 TDs! Mind-boggling.

Anyway, here’s what else I saw:

That's right, Jesse does love you.

The Bats:
Ben Zobrist
– 7/10, 5 R, 2 HR, 10 RBI, SB…If you can believe it, Jesse did NOT have him on his bench. Simply one of the best fantasy game(s) you could ask for. He more than filled the box score in game one alone.

Ian Desmond – 2/4, 2 R, HR, RBI…New daddy belts a homer and raises his average to .220! Makin’ baby proud!

Elvis Andrus – 2/4, R, 3 SB…Now up to 7 SB and is on pace for 40+. Still, I was hoping for 50 this year. Andrus stinks.

Travis Snider – 1/4, K…Batting .184 this year will not cut it for the greatest team in baseball. It gets you sent to AAA.

Grady Sizemore – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…16 hits this year, 8 of which are doubles and 4 of which are homers. Yeah, Grady is trying to prove he’s healthy I’d say.

Jacoby Ellsbury – 3/5, 2 R, 2 RBI…Four multi-hit games in his last 5. Average up to .264 now and your window to obtain him on the cheap is closing quickly.

Nick Swisher – 3/4, 3 R, HR, 4 RBI, BB…First hits since April 20th. Maybe this is the game that gets him out of his funk.

Brett Gardner – 2/3, 3 R, HR, RBI, BB, SB…Speaking of nasty funk. Box score filler-upper! He needs to get going too or else my post is worth ****.

Lance Berkman – 4/5, 3 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI…Ok, he gets “Big” back. Big Puma is looking like the old Rice product that used to make mincemeat of NL pitching.

Stephen Drew – 2/5, 3 R, HR, 5 RBI…Continues to excel in the clean-up spot.

Chris B. Young – 3/5, 2 R, 2 RBI…CBY making his way back to .250…

The Arms:
Michael Pineda
– 6 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 9:3…Turning out to be quite the draft-day (or waiver wire) bargain. In non-keepers I’d still be trying to sell him.

Livan Hernandez – 8 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 5:1…Gettin’ ‘er done. It’s unreal to me this guy is “winning.”

Drew Storen – IP, H, K, SV…Closed another game out. The future is now – well, assuming you exclude Strasburg and Harper…

Alexi Ogando – 6 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 7:3…Another rookie who I’d be looking to deal now and if not now definitely by break.

Brandon Morrow – 6 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 6:1…Two nice starts to begin his year. Here comes a cake schedule. He could have 200 K by June 1st.

Fausto Carmona – 7 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2:2…Limited the walks and Voila! a victory.

Jon Lester – 8 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 5:3…Not lights-out, but friggin good enough. Lester is top-tier and avoiding a miserable April. Add him to the Verlander short list of guys who are going to have career years.

C.C. Sabathia – 7 IP, 7 H, 6:1…The Yanks needed a start like this from Sabathia. Expect the wins to start coming in droves.

Jeff Niemann – 7 IP, 2 H, ER, 2:1…Best start of the year and it came on the heels of me removing him from my watch list. You’re welcome.

Ryan Dempster – 0.1 IP, 4 H, 7 ER, 0:4…As discussed earlier, Dempster totally scr-wed you if you played him last night.
