04.29.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

A Friday recap for you all. I watched about two minutes of the Mets. I turned it on and they trailed the Phillies 0-2. It was then 0-4 and I turned it off. Not even an hour later I flipped back and it was 0-10. Disgusting. Oh joy, we face Halladay and Lee to wrap up the weekend. Shoot me now.

Speaking of disgusting, can we please stop coverage of the wedding going on in England now? Shoot me again I ain’t dead yet.

Anyway, here’s what else I saw:

The Bats:
Ryan Howard
– 2/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 6 RBI…27 RBI now? That is so Zobrist!

Robinson Cano – 2/3, 3 R, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB…Cano is turning it on now.

Jose Bautista – 2/3, 3 R, HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB…He is going to make us all look stupid for saying he’d be lucky to hit 35 bombs this year. He’s on pace for 54 now. Weird.

Carlos Santana – 1/4, R, HR, 4 RBI, BB…WALK OFF!

Asdrubal Cabrera – 2/3, 3 R, HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB, SB…Box score filler-upper!

Miguel Cabrera – 2/5, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…You wouldn’t know it, but he is having another great season.

Jeremy Hermida – 1/3, R, HR, 3 RBI…Take that, old team! Dude, you’re batting .067 and you’re a 4th OF-er.

Ben Zobrist – 1/3, R, BB…Zero RBI? You stink!

Ryan Braun – 2/4, R, HR, 2 RBI…No. 10 and he is on pace to challenge Maris’ HR record!

Prince Fielder – 2/3, R, HR, 2 RBI, BB…Batting .337. Did you know that? Usually a slow starter, Prince is primed for a very large season.

Matt Wieters – 2/5, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI…Ryan Leaf’s half-brother has entered the building! Welcome, Matt. Live up to your potential now.

Andrew McCutchen – 1/3, R, HR, RBI, BB…Glad I took you over Justin Upton in my keeper league. Oh, April’s your worst month statistically? I hope so, because J.Up is making you look STUPID!

Justin Upton – 2/4, R, HR, 2 RBI…Batting .274 with 5 HR and 14 RBI.

Alfonso Soriano – 2/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 2 RBI…The Cris Carter of baseball. All he does is hit home runs.

The Arms:
Vance Worley
– 6 IP, 2 H, 5:4…Don’t go crazy here. He was facing the Mess. A 4.00 career MiLB ERA and 1.28 WHIP? No thanks. Interestingly enough, did you know his older brother Clarence killed Drexel? If you knew what I was talking about without clicking on the link, you have great taste in cinema. I can’t help but think it would have been even better had Quentin directed his own story.

WTF is a Drexel? That's a Drexel.

Ricky Romero – 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 7:3…I have never been a huge Romero fan, but how can you argue with his numbers? Is that just ignorance on my part?

Jason Marquis – SHO, 5 H, 7:0…Wow, did you see this coming against Lincecum? Don’t go all Doogie on us now and pick him up.

Tim Lincecum – 7 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 7:0…Should probably be (3-1) or even (4-1). Bloody shame.

Travis Wood – 3.1 IP, 8 H, 7 ER, 3:2…I was high on him coming into this year, but he is just all over the place. FIP is good, but his strand rate and BABIP are terrible. Hopefully he can right the ship.

Ervin Santana – 6 IP, 4 H, ER, 5:2…It’s a start, but I’m sure he feels good about getting his first W of the year while teammate Jed Weaver already has 25.

Daisuke Matsuzaka – 4 IP, 3 H, ER, 4:4…Tried throwing the gyroball and hurt himself. Will miss his next start and then will come back to suck for you.

Shaun Marcum – 7 IP, 3 H, 6:2…Had to redeem himself after giving up four runs to the Astros last week. How is that possible? Puma doesn’t even play there anymore!

Kevin Correia – 6.2, IP 3 H, 4:1…Ok, I really don’t know what to say now. He really has looked pretty darn good. Maybe Killboy will write about him Sunday.

***
Trevor Cahill – 7 IP, 7 H, 4:4…(4-0) now with a 1.88 ERA and 1.12 WHIP. Trying to keep pace with Jed!

Ted Lilly – 6 IP, 5 H, ER, 4:1…Figured Lilly would have one of his best years, but he’s not been that impressive. Two decent starts mixed in with some stinkers. Once the Ks come back, he should be just fine.
