05.04.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

A night after we saw Francisco Liriano toss a no-hitter, Tim Hudson…..tossed a one-hitter. Oh, what a letdown. Still a great game that saw him face two over the minimum. Very underrated pitcher these days.

Anyway, here’s what else I saw:

The Bats:
Alex Rios
– 3/4, R, HR, RBI…3 HR in his last 5 games. Just needed the weather to warm up. He’ll be fine.

Adam Lind – 4/4, R, HR, 2 RBI…Must think it’s 2009, because 2010 is a distant memory…in the future or something if that makes sense.

Martin Prado – 4/10, 2 R, 4 RBI…Slowly making his way back to respectability.

Nate McLouth – 5/5, 4 R, HR, 2 RBI, 3 BB…Heyward better watch it. Nate wants to get back in that two-hole. Damn that was gross.

Brad Hawpe – 2/3, R, HR, 2 RBI, BB…Meh!

Ryan Doumit – 2/3, R, HR, 4 RBI, BB…Remember this guy?!?!

David DeJesus – 2/3, 2 R, 2 HR, 2 RBI…Two solo shots for D.D. and raised his average to a whopping .240!

Mike Stanton – 1/5, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…His 2-run moonshot proved to be the game-winner in the 9th. Now has 3 HR in his last 4 games with a total of 5 on the season.

The Arms:
Aneury Rodríguez
– 5 IP, H, 3:1…In his first MLB start, the Redlegs couldn’t touch AnRod. Should you run to the wire? No. Check his MiLB stats. Very, how you say “pedestrian.”

Carlos Zambrano – 8 IP, 5 H, ER, 4:1…Big Z must be frustrating to own. Wouldn’t know as I refuse to walk the line. He’s now (4-1) with a 4.23 ERA and 1.19 WHIP.

Brandon Morrow – 6 IP, 5 H, ER, 7:4…Control was an issue, but he did pick up his first win as he should now be (2-0) in lieu of (1-1).

Tommy Hanson – 6 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 7:2…Has not given up more than 3 ER in any start this year. Primed for a big year.

Zack Greinke – 4 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 6:1…Little rusty in his first start, but the Ks were there. Get him activated!

Kevin Correia – 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3:2…STILL not buying it!

Vance Worley – 6 IP, 4 H, ER, 7:0…Him either!

Tim Lincecum – 7 IP, 5 H, 12:3…Buying him! Mets looked silly. SILLY!

Max Scherzer – 8 IP, 4 H, 9:2…The other Jed Weaver of the AL. Don’t be fooled. It’s Scherzer and that WHIP is still super high.

Treveor Cahill – 7 IP, 5 H, ER, 5:3…Now (5-0)! Stats say he will regress, but not as much as some might think.

Josh Tomlin – 7 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 5:0…Solid. Have to give him credit. I tell you not to buy in and he keeps pitching well.

C.J. Wilson – 6 IP, ER, 12:1…Fantastic start from a guy few would’ve predicted a repeat from this year. His innings jump to last year is a concern, but he’s cruising right now.

Jhoulys Chacin – 7 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 6:4…Giving up some taters lately and walked quite a few tonight. Luckily he was facing the DBacks.
