Fantasy MLB Spot Starting: 05.07.11

Welcome to the Friday edition of Spot Starting.  Lots of depth for spot starts on Saturday when you probably need them most.

For games on Saturday May 7th these selected pitchers might be had in your league (less than 50% owned in Yahoo! or ESPN) with percent owned Yahoo/ESPN, (team), and opponent:

Bud Norris 42% / 46% (HOU) vs. PIT

Bartolo Colon 33% / 44% (NYY) @ TEX

Jeremy Guthrie 31% / 17% (BAL) vs. TB

Chris Young 29% / 17% (NYM) vs. LAD

Derek Holland 28% / 12% (TEX) vs. NYY

Brian Duensing 21% / 12% (MIN) @ BOS

Brandon McCarthy 14% / 14% (OAK) @ KC

Jon Garland 10% /  9% (LAD) @ NYM

My Pick: Bud Norris vs. Pirates

Alternate: Bartolo Colon @ Rangers

Deep League Special: Jon Garland @ Mets

Norris continues to impress in the early going (0 ER in 3 of last 4 starts) and has the peripherals to back him up (10.85K/9!, 3.01 FIP, 2.77 xFIP).  You have to like him at home against the woeful Pirate offense.  If he could reduce the walks he has the potential to become a front line starter.

The Fatolo Colon experience continues with a challenge against the potent Rangers lineup.  Colon needs to keep the ball in the yard against the Rangers as he gave up 2 HR in his last outing, but a K/IP and a W is in the cards.

Results from Thursday 05.05.11:

Brandon Beachy ND, 6 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 9 K, 1 BB… Beachy pitched very very well but Wins continue to escape him as he could easily have 4 by now.  If he keeps pitching like this, they will because the Braves are legit.

Season Results (my pick only):

100.1 IP, 6-4, 93 H, 40 ER, 85 K, 32 BB, 3.59 ERA, 1.25 WHIP

Keep it up, I’m enjoying this, and you’re picking quite well.
