Welcome to the Friday the 13th edition of Spot Starting. Tons of depth to be had for Saturday’s games.
For games on Saturday May 14th these selected pitchers might be had in your league (less than 50% owned in Yahoo! or ESPN) with percent owned Yahoo/ESPN, (team), and opponent:
Kyle McClellan 44% / 38% (StL) @ CIN
Anibal Sanchez 42% / 65% (FLA) @ WAS
Wade Davis 26% / 63% (TB) vs. BAL
Derek Holland 23% / 6% (TEX) vs. LAA
Chris Narveson 16% / 10% (MIL) vs. PIT
R.A. Dickey 14% / 4% (NYM) @ HOU
Erik Bedard 12% / 8% (SEA) @ CLE
Tyson Ross 3% / 2% (OAK) vs. CWS
My Pick: Anibal Sanchez vs. Nationals
Alternate: Chris Narveson vs. Pirates
Deep League Special: Tyson Ross vs. White Sox
Sanchez is the clear choice if he’s available in your league (much more likely in Yahoo). He absolutely owns the Nats for his career: 15 GS, 6-0, 91.2 IP, 73K, 2.16 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, .216 BAA. He struck out 11 Nats against them in his last start that I picked him as an alternate.
Game back on for the Narveson experiment, at least for this match up against the weak Pirates. Narveson will get you a K/IP and should be able to pickup a win against the Pirates to break his personal 3 game losing streak. He’s been one of the more unlucky pitchers this year as his 3.05 FIP, 3.06 xFIP and .325 BABIP will attest to.
Ross is our deep sleeper pick for your deep or AL league. He’s in the A’s rotation while Braden is on the DL and has pitched admirably so far. He picked up a relief Win in 3 IP against the White Sox earlier this year, striking out 4.
Results from 05.12.11:
Jon Garland – POSTPONED due to rain. Garland’s outing was washed out after the 2nd inning. He had gone 2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 K, 1 BB and was looking good. It is not clear when he will make his next start as a result.
Season Results (my pick only):
7-5, 133.1 IP, 126 H, 49 ER, 119 K, 38 BB, 3.31 ERA, 1.23 WHIP
