Cameron Maybin, OF San Diego Padres (22% owned in Yahoo, 27.8% in ESPN)
Current Stat Line: .280 AVG / 23 R / 5 HR / 13 RBI / 6 SB
I have already mentioned Maybin here but his ownership increased by only 4% in Yahoo leagues. If you extrapolate his current numbers to 600 AB you get, .280 AVG / 97 R / 21 HR / 55 RBI / 25 SB. He has been batting .714 with 2HR in the past 3 games so make the add.
Projection:.276 AVG / 82 R / 16 HR / 69 RBI / 20 SB
Laynce Nix, OF Washington Nationals (2% owned in Yahoo, 2.6% in ESPN)
Current Stat Line: .313 AVG / 12 R / 5 HR / 15 RBI / 2 SB
I realize a BB:K ratio of 1:25 isn’t very good but he still makes for an interesting short-term add for very deep or NL only leagues. Nix will come down to Earth but, he is swinging a hot bat at the moment and hitting cleanup for the Nationals. It looks like Jim Riggleman is rollin’ with the hot hand at the moment so I suggest you do the same.
Projection: .255 AVG / 40 R / 13 HR / 52 RBI / 4 SB
Jordan Zimmermann, SP Washington Nationals (48% owned in Yahoo)
Current Stat Line: 2 W / 4 L / 35 K / 4.12 ERA / 1.23 WHIP
Many have forgotten about Jordan Zimmermann since his Tommy John surgery but he looks poised to turn those forgetters into believers. He is on point with his velocity with a 93.2 average fastball (up from 92.3 in a short 2010) and has shown great command (2.06 BB/9). He has been a quality start machine since his vacation against the Mets and Cardinals. He will most likely be on an innings cap so plan accordingly.
Projection: 11 W / 10 L / 135 K / 3.70 ERA / 1.20 WHIP
Homer Bailey, SP Cincinnati Reds (36% owned in Yahoo, 43.3% in ESPN)
Current Stat Line: 2 W / 0 L / 12 K / 0.69 ERA / 0.77 WHIP
I realize he has only face the Astros at the big league level but you can’t argue with a K:BB ratio of 12:1. His 3 starts at AAA looked pretty promising with a final line of 2 W / 0 L / 14 K / 0.54 ERA / 0.90 WHIP. Bailey has never done well in the Majors but his great pedigree makes him a good speculative add.
Projection: 12 W / 9 L / 160 K / 3.90 ERA / 1.25 WHIP
Travis Wood, SP Cincinnati Reds (21% owned in Yahoo, 43.5% in ESPN)
Current Stat Line: 2 W / 3 L / 40 K / 5.28 ERA / 1.47 WHIP
This year Travis wood has been one of the unluckiest pitchers in all of baseball. Wood’s BABIP of .356 and FIP of 2.96, both point to an ERA correction. His velocity is identical from last year and his SwStr% has jumped from 7.6% in 2010 to 8.4% in 2011. In his past two starts he has only given up 2 ER in 12.2 IP. Now is the time to jump on before an opposing manager does.
Projection: 14 W / 10 L / 185 K / 3.65 ERA / 1.25 WHIP
