A rough weekend to be a writer here at 4th and Home. I apologize if you waited patiently for a Breakdown and I did not deliver. Shame on me. I hope it never happens again.
Anyway, onto it…
4th and Home Player of the Day: Jose Bautista – 3/5, 3 R, 3 HR, 4 RBI…Ridiculous!!! Nothin’ else to say.
The Bats:
Lance Berkman – 2/4, 2 R, HR, RBI…There he is! First HR since May 5th. And you thought he reverted to Puma 2010…
Ramon Hernandez – 2/4, R, HR, RBI…Three HR in his last two games. Need a backstop?
Dan Uggla – 2/3, 3 R, HR, RBI…Hit the game winner off Doc Halladay. Maybe this gives him some confidence to hit another 30 this year before Brian pulls his hair out.
John Mayberry – 1/2, R, HR, 2 RBI, SB…Keeping it warm for the injured (again) DomBrown.
Matt Joyce – 2/3, 2 R, HR, RBI…Pick him up, YET? If it makes you feel better, yours truly owns him. Actually dropped Luke Scott for him. Feel better? Good, now pick him up.
Nick Markakis – 3/5, 2 R, HR, RBI…Nice game and I am going to go out on a limb and say that he is ready to turn it on now. Go get him from a worried owner.
Justin Turner – 2/5, 2 R, HR, 5 RBI…The ex-O with a monster game to pull the Mets within 2 of a .500 record. It’s a miracle!
Ryan Braun – 2/3, R, HR, 4 RBI…2 HR and 10 RBI in his last 5 games.
Casey McGehee – 2/4, 3 R, HR, RBI…Looks like he’s finally found his groove. Stella had it.
Ian Kinsler – 4/4, R…That ‘ll do.
Adrian Beltre – 1/2, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI…The average is worse than I think everyone expected, but the power is there.
Coco Crisp – 1/3, 2 R, HR, RBI, 2 SB…BSFU! Terrible average, but he’ll come around. This was just a taste.
Alexei Ramirez – 3/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…Alexei heats up with the weather. Check the splits.
Todd Helton – 2/4, R, HR, RBI…Did you know he had 6 HR?
Kevin Youkilis – 2/5, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI…Expect him to even out to his career norms, which means a big month is in store very soon.
David Ortiz – 3/5, R, HR, RBI…Triple short of the cycle.
The Arms:
Chris Carpenter – 6.1 IP, 9 H, 7 ER, 5:2…It’s not getting any prettier for Carp. He’s run his ERA to 4.95 and his WHIP to 1.49. Gross. At this point I am inclined to think there’s an injury. He’s just been way too hittable this season.
Aroldis Chapman – 0.1 IP, 4 ER, 0:4…Wow. This is worse than Carp. I think it’s time he spends some time in AAA. Don’t forget, he was shut down earlier this year with injury.
Travis Wood – 6 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 3:1…Check out the game log. That makes three straight decent starts.
Javier Vasquez – 4 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 4:2…Read this slowly. If you own him, drop him now and follow Jesse each day for a spot starter. I warned you during spring training about Vasquez. I am still warning you. No, forget it. This has been my last warning. Start him at your own risk from here on out.
Roy Halladay – 8 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 7:2…B2B complete game losses. Don’t lose hope. He is still THEE SP to own.
Jake Arrieta – 6 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 7:3…(5-1) now, but I think he finishes around (10-10) if he’s lucky.
Mat Latos – 5.2 IP, 4 H, ER, 5:3…Got his first win. Not pretty though.
Ian Kennedy – 6 IP, 4 H, ER, 8:1…Pleasant surprise, especially after I dogged him. He’s now (4-1) with a 3.05 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and has a 53:16 ratio in 59 IP.
