05.18.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

It was a “night” dominated by the pitchers. Killboy had his wonderkids going in Dempster and Gallardo. Dempster blew it, but how did Gallardo do?

Anyway, onto it…

4th and Home Player of the Day: Jake Peavy – SHO, 3 H, 8:0…Uhm, where did this come from? You know people had him stashed on their DL for this one. Now they will activate him and he will implode.

The Bats:
Alex Rodriguez
– 4/7, 2 R…Two straight appearances in this column. Perhaps he is heating up.

Hanley Ramirez – 2/5, 2 R, HR, RBI, SB…BSFU! Nice to see HanRam make an appearance here.

Matt Joyce – 1/3, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…He also had two walks and he is not slowing down. I’ve had him plugged in since I picked him up. Against righties, he is mashing.

Elliot Johnson – 2/3, R, 3 RBI…In his last 3 starts: 5/10, 3 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI. Maddon said he’d play him while he’s hot.

Eric Hosmer – 1/5, R, HR, RBI…Game-tying solo shot off Neftali Feliz to send it to extra innings. After the game, Boras told the Royals they could lock him up now for a 10 yr/100MM contract.

Justin Upton – 2/6, R, HR, 2 RBI…About time he gets back in this piece!

Ryan Ludwick – 2/3, R, HR, 2 RBI…He will now go 0 for his next 15.

Matt Kemp – 2/4, 2 R, HR, RBI…Kemp is heating up again. Homers in two straight.

Cody Ross – 2/4, 3 R, HR, 3 RBI, SB…BSFU and a game winner on the same night!

The Arms:
Cole Hamels
– 8 IP, 5 H, ER, 8:1…Just keeps getting it done. Cole is now (5-2) with a 2.92 ERA and 1.01 WHIP with a 64:13 ratio in 61.2 innings. Ace!

Jorge de la Rosa – CG, 5 H, ER, 4:0…Brilliant in a losing effort. Chris benched him and I’d imagine it was because he was pitching in Philly.

Bartolo Colon – 8 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 7:1…Could not get a win because Mariano blew the save. Colon is now sporting a 3.16 ERA and 1.13 WHIP through 51.1 innings.

Zach Britton – 7 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, 4:3…Not as great as Colon, but kept his team in it. Now with a 2.14 ERA and 1.05 WHIP. Not bad, Rook!

Jon Niese – 7 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, 7:1…Very nice line to get the Mets back within two of .500…again.

Clay Buchholz – 7 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 7:1…5 of his last 6 starts have been pretty decent, so he is definitely coming around now.

Phil Coke – 7 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 4:1…Coke gets his ERA under 4.00 with this one.

Charlie Morton – SHO, 5 H, 5:2…Defying the odds as he shut-out a very good Reds team. He is now (5-1) with a 2.62 ERA and 1.31 WHIP.

Justin Masterson – CG, 5 H, ER, 8:2…A TLL as Jake Peavy of all people shut the Tribe down. 2.52 ERA and 1.22 WHIP now.

Kyle Lohse – 8 IP, 6 H, ER, 3:1…He’s Dave Duncan’d himself with a (5-2) record, 2.17 ERA and 0.92 WHIP. Not bad at all!

Alexi Ogando – 7 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 5:1…Couldn’t get a win (Thanks, Hos!), but continues to pitch great for owners.

Danny Duffy – 4 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 4:6…Not the best debut in the world, but let’s chalk it up to nerves shall we?

Craig Kimbrel – 0.1 IP, 4 H, 2 ER…Blown save number four. Ouch. Braves can’t afford this when every game distances them from the Phillies.

Carl Pavano – 7 IP, 6 H, ER, 2:0…B2B nice starts after B2B terrible ones. I don’t trust him.

Yovani Gallardo – 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 9:3…Here we go! Wait, it was in Petco. Nevermind.

Jason Vargas – 7 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 9:2…I am still not buying it, but he brings it sometimes. I just can’t get on board.

Jered Weaver – 6 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 4:1…Ouch. Ever since the bellyache he’s been garbage.
