2011 Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Gems: American League

This week on Waiver Wire Gems – American League:

Jake Arrieta, SP Baltimore Orioles (27% owned in Yahoo, 36% ESPN)

Current Stat Line: 5 W / 1 L / 46 K / 4.03 ERA / 1.23 WHIP

His ERA won’t kill you and he’s winning games. Good K rate to go on top of it and you have yourself a nice back of the rotation pitcher available free on the wire in most leagues.

Projection: 14 W/ 6 L / 165 K / 3.95 ERA / 1.25 WHIP

Fausto Carmona, SP Cleveland (27% owned in Yahoo, 24% ESPN)

Current Stat Line: 3 W / 4 L / 4.76 ERA / 40 K / 1.23 WHIP

Like I said last week, the White Sox are Carmona’s kryptonite! Hopefully you didn’t play him against them. Looks at his stats every where else and he’s a guy I want on my team.

Projection: 14 W/ 8 L / 3.75 ERA / 145 K / 1.15 WHIP

Julio Borbon, OF Texas Rangers (4% owned in Yahoo, 6% ESPN)

Current Stat Line: .270 AVG / 10 R / 0 HR / 11 RBI / 6 SB

Borbon promptly hit the DL after I put him on this list last week. If you’ve got the space, could be a sneaky stash if he gets playing time at the top of the order after his return.

Projection: .280 / 70 R / 4 HR / 45 RBI / 25 SB

Mark Trumbo, 1B LA Angels (16% owned in Yahoo, 27% ESPN)

Current Stat Line: .248 AVG / 15 R / 6 HR / 18 RBI / 3 SB

With Morales out for the year, Trumbo’s stock rises. Continued and consistent playing time should result in solid stats from Trumbo if you are in a pinch at first base.

Projection: .260 AVG / 65 R / 22 HR / 65 RBI / 8 SB

Austin Jackson, OF Detroit Tigers (41% owned in Yahoo, 70% ESPN)

Current Stat Line: .237 AVG / 19 R / 3 HR / 13 RBI / 6 SB

He’s been hot in May with a .328 average, 2 home runs and 4 steals. Better grab him now yahoo leaguers before it’s too late!!

Projection: .270 AVG / 85 R / 8 HR / 50 RBI / 18 SB

Don’t know how Carmona is not owned by more teams. Well, unless they are 4-teamers!
