05.22.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

Interleague play always bring interesting games. Like the Mets being up 3-1 and ready to take the series from the Yanks and then giving up an 8-run inning to lose the game (and series).

Ugh…onto it…

4th and Home Player of the Day: James Shields – SHO, 3 H, 13:1…Big Game James continues to dominate. This start was just nasty!

The Bats:
Asdrubal Cabrera
– 5/5, 2 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI…Wow. He now has 9 HR on the season (most in his career) and is looking to break all of his past single-season records. Yeah, I told you he was juicing.

Michael Brantley – 3/4, 3 R, 2 RBI, SB…Guy continues to produce, mostly since we talked about him on the Show of course.

Joey Votto – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…Votto’s been absent for a bit from this piece, so it’s good to see him back. Batting .335 with 6 HR and 28 RBI.

Jay Bruce – 2/4, R, HR, RBI…If Jose Bautista did not exist, we’d be talking about Bruce. He has been ON FIRE. He’s now up to .271 with 11 HR and 27 RBI.

Alex Rodriguez – 4/5, R, RBI…Got the average back up to .284!

Curtis Granderson – 1/4, R, HR, RBI…Number 16. Unreal.

Hunter Pence – 2/5, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…At .295/6/35 now.

Alexei Ramirez – 4/5, 2 R, HR, 5 RBI…Career year in the making. Book it.

Jerry Sands – 4/4, R, SB…In the past two days he’s hit his first major league home run and raised his batting average 41 points.

Wilson Betemit – 2/5, R, HR, 3 RBI…Quietly batting .315.

Yadier Molina – 4/5, 2 R, 3 RBI…Quietly batting ,333 and knocking in 21 runs from the bottom of the line-up.

Torii Hunter – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…Bad season so far, so this was a refreshing line from the old man.

Delmon Young – 2/4, R, HR, RBI…Finally with his first home run of 2011!

Adrian Gonzalez – 4/4, 2 R…10 hits in 3 games versus the Cubbies. Oh man!

The Arms:
Ubaldo Jimenez
– CH, 2 H, 2 ER, 4:5…No one could hit Ubaldo in this one, but when they did they made him pay. Tough loss for Ubaldo. Control is still shaky, but perhaps he’s getting back on track.

Randy Wolf – 7 IP, 4 H, ER, 5:3…Wolf has been serviceable and this was a very nice start as he now sits at (4-4) with a 3.70 ERA and 1.37 WHIP.

Matt Harrison – 8.1 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 3:3…I realize the Phillies’ bats are slumping, but this was a decent start against the best team in baseball.

Rick Porcello – 8 IP, H, 0 ER, 3:2…Wow. Has he been picked up in your league yet? If you don’t mind him not getting you Ks, he is your guy. Pineiro-esque!

Tyler Chatwood – 7 IP, 5 H, ER, 6:2…Mixing good starts with bad ones, so he can’t be trusted just yet.

Felix Hernandez – 8 IP, 6 H, ER, 13:0…He Shields-ed the Padres!

Daniel Hudson – 8 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 6:0…He’s getting there, but I wish he’d give up less hits.

Well, the world did not end on Saturday but I am surprised it did not end Sunday as two worlds collided as Gio Gonzalez faced NL Gio…

Gio Gonzalez – 6.2 IP, 8 H, ER, 8:2…Gio wins!

Jonathan Sanchez – 6 IP, 5 H, ER, 5:2…NL Gio loses.
Not really…it was a draw as both pitchers received a “ND.” What does this mean? It means we were saved in the final hour.
