06.01.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

Well, we’ve made it to June and your non-paid writers here (including myself) seem to be taking a lot of vacation time – from work and from our site. Hopefully we can all get back on track soon and we certainly do appreciate you continuing to check in hoping to find more poorly written articles from a bunch of couch managers…

Onto it!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Ubaldo Jimenez – SHO, 4 H, 7:0…He is here because I own him and I am overjoyed (only to be p-ssed next start when he implodes again) that he made it past the 2nd inning! Hopefully for us owners this is a sign of things to come…

The Bats:
Nelson Cruz
– 3/4, RBI, SB…The legs are back. Did you buy while he was DL’d?

David Ortiz – 2/4, 2 R, HR, RBI…Batting .313. Amazing and if you have him, you got him cheap, didn’t you?

Alexei Ramirez – 3/5, 3 R, RBI…Batting .297. As I said previously, 2011 will be a career year for ‘lexei.

Paul Konerko – 3/4, R, HR, 3 RBI…Did you know: Konerko is up to 12 HR and 44 RBI? Who does he think he is, Jay Bruce?

Martin Prado – 2/4, 2 R, HR, RBI…Average is creeping up and so are the counting stats.

Adam Jones – 3/4, R, HR, RBI…Jones is going to put up numbers like he did in ’09 and ’10. Bank it.

Joey Votto – 3/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…HR are down this year, but I am willing to bet he will still finish as a first-rounder when it’s all said and done.

Jay Bruce – 1/4, R, HR, 2 RBI…Only being mentioned because he went yard again. Guy has been on fire for like 10 years now! 2012 first-rounder???

Erick Aybar – 3/4…Aybar keeps on hitting, while his brother keeps on hitting his wife. Loser.

Mike Stanton – 3/4, R, HR, 3 RBI…Slumping lately, this was a nice game. 12 HR and 32 RBI now. Remember he was hurt for a bit?

Asdrubal Cabrera – 4/6, 2 R, 3 RBI…Wow.

Matt LaPorta – 3/5, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI…It’s somethin’!

Cody Ross – 4/5, R, RBI, SB…Not much here, but worthy in deeper leagues I’d imagine.

The Arms:
Colby Lewis
– 8 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 8:2…Colby continues to roll like he’s Post-Season Colby again! Remember when his ERA was 6.95 on April 25th? Chris tried to pry him from my hands, but I knew better. Lewis now sports a 3.48/1.15 ratio.

David Price – 8 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 8:1…Great game. Tough loss.

Brett Myers – 6 IP, 3 H, ER, 3:2…His overall line still looks bad, but you’re happy with this start against the lowly Cubbies.

A.J. Burnett – 7 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 5:3…Burnett is quietly putting up quality numbers. Check him out.

Brian Matusz – 5.2 IP, 4 H, ER, 3:0…Nice first start of the year. How convenient it was against the M’s.

Michael Pineda – 7 IP, 6 H, ER, 7:1…I honestly didn’t think he would be this good, this fast. He rules.

Shaun Marcum – 7 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 7:0…Besides a Votto HR, Marcum was vintage.

Tyler Chatwood – 7.2 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 2:2…Solid, but I always find it tough to get behind a low-K guy.
