Welcome back to Spot Starting. Well, all good things must come to an end, and our streak of 10 consecutive wins ended after over 5 weeks and 18 picks. Ironically the loss goes to Bud Norris who was the last pick to lose, but on the bright side – he put up a tremendous line that should win 99% of the time.
For games on Thursday June 16th these selected pitchers might be had in your league (less than 50% owned in Yahoo! or ESPN) with percent owned Yahoo/ESPN, (team), and opponent:
Javier Vazquez 25% / 2% (FLA) @ PHL
Jeremy Guthrie 20% / 8% (BAL) @ TOR
Mark Buehrle 19% / 15% (CWS) @ MIN
R.A. Dickey 13% / 6% (NYM) @ ATL
Nick Blackburn 9% / 4% (MIN) vs. CWS
John Lannan 4% / 5% (WAS) vs. StL
Jordan Lyles 4% / 2% (HOU) vs. PIT
Mike Minor 3% / 1% (ATL) vs. NYM
My Pick: John Lannan vs. Cardinals
Alternate: Jordan Lyles vs. Pirates
Deep League Special: Mike Minor vs. Mets

John Lannon – yes I am forced to pick John Lannon. A ton of yick going tomorrow in an unusually full Thursday slate. All my picks are “Deep Leaguers” today. But don’t laugh off Lannon completely – he won his last start against them on April 20th and has excellent career numbers against the Cardinals (2.52/1.22/.245) and tremendous home stats this year (1.70/1.24/.231).
The other two picks are of the sexy rookie prospect variety that I know you’ll go with over a journeyman like Lannon so that you can save face with your league mates. Minor has been shuttled back and forth between Atlanta and AAA all year while Lyles may be here to stay on an Astros team with nothing to lose.
Results from Tuesday 06.14.11:
Bud Norris – L, 7 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 9 K, 2 BB… Norris was a very hard luck loser as the pathetic Astros lineup couldn’t muster even 1 run to get Norris off the hook. Norris is a must own in all leagues, how he continues to be available blows my mind.
Season Results (my pick only):
36 GS, 16-6, 231.1 IP, 201 H, 71 ER, 184 K, 63 BB, 2.76 ERA, 1.14 WHIP
