Welcome back to Spot Starting. We enter Inter League play this weekend so teams aren’t as familiar with the pitchers they face which is usually advantage to the pitcher.
Happy Father’s Day to all the fellow Dads out there. It is my wish for you that you get to read your Sunday box scores in peace if just for one day.
For games on Saturday June 18th these selected pitchers might be had in your league (less than 50% owned in Yahoo! or ESPN) with percent owned Yahoo/ESPN, (team), and opponent:
Brian Matusz 47% / 51% (BAL) @ WAS
Edinson Volquez 41% / 38% (CIN) vs. TOR
Scott Baker 40% / 27% (MIN) vs. SD
Tim Stauffer 39% / 13% (SD) @ MIN
Matt Harrison 32% / 14% (TEX) @ ATL
Randy Wolf 27% / 28% (MIL) @ BOS
Carlos Carrasco 11% / 6% (CLE) vs. PIT
Paul Maholm 8% / 5% (PIT) @ CLE
My Pick: Carlos Carrasco vs. Pirates
Alternate: Scott Baker vs. Padres
Deep League Special: Maholm @ Indians
Carrasco has been dominant in his last 2 starts 15.1 IP, 8 H, 0 ER, 13K, 4 BB. I like that to continue against a Pirates team that hasn’t seen him before and is 4th in the majors in Ks and 26th in OPS.
Baker is also a very good play against the woeful Padres lineup and he has been hot his past couple starts.
Results from Wednesday 06.15.11:
Dillon Gee – ND, 4 IP, 1 H, 0ER, 5 K, 2 BB… Gee was pitching very well before he was forced to leave due to a long rain delay in Atlanta, he should be 8-0 but will have to look for his 8th win in 5 days.
Results from Thursday 06.16.11:
John Lannan – ND, 7 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 2 K, 2 BB… A decent line from Lannon, you’d like to see some more K’s but he did hold the powerful Card lineup in check for 7 innings and the Nats won it in the 10th.
Season Results (my pick only):
38 GS, 16-6, 242.1 IP, 208 H, 73 ER, 191 K, 67 BB, 2.71 ERA, 1.13 WHIP
