Welcome back to Spot Starting. There is a very short slate of games for tomorrow but luckily we have some decent options anyway.
For games on Wednesday June 23rd these selected pitchers might be had in your league (less than 50% owned in Yahoo! or ESPN) with percent owned Yahoo/ESPN, (team), and opponent:
Jason Marquis 15% / 7% (WAS) vs. SEA
Brian Duensing 8% / 1% (MIN) @ SF
Chris Capuano 5% / 2% (NYM) vs. OAK
My Pick: Chris Capuano vs. A’s
Alternate: Jason Marquis vs. Mariners
Deep League Special: Capuano

I’ve always had a small place in my fantasy baseball heart for Capuano and even though he’s a dirty Met now I can’t root against him. He is coming off 3 straight quality starts and 4 of 5 where he’s given up 2 ER or less. He has also K’d 15 over his last 19 IP (7.1/9) which isn’t too shaby off the waiver wire as my picks are 6.9/IP for the season. Against a bottom barrel A’s lineup I like him even more.
Marquis, like his rotation mate and the Nats as a whole is also quietly putting together a decent season. I’m not saying add him for the long haul, but against the terrible Mariners roster (2.45/1.04/.194 career split) I like Marquis and the Nats to roll.
Results from 6/21/11:
Carl Pavano: W, 8 IP, 9 H, 2 ER, 2K, 0 BB… Pavano kept his hot streak intact with another strong outing. The K’s will never be there with Pavano but he really is showing better stuff and those who might have reached for him in the draft and dropped him in frustration (cough, me, cough) are now wishing they kept him.
Season Results (my pick only):
40 GS, 18-6, 256.2 IP, 221 H, 76 ER, 197 K, 68 BB, 2.67 ERA, 1.13 WHIP
