Welcome back to Spot Starting.
For games on Friday June 24th these selected pitchers might be had in your league (less than 50% owned in Yahoo! or ESPN) with percent owned Yahoo/ESPN, (team), and opponent:
Tim Stauffer 42% / 15% (SD) vs. ATL
Edinson Volquez 39% / 36% (CIN) @ BAL
Edwin Jackson 37% / 14% (CWS) vs. WAS
Carlos Carrasco 33% /32 % (CLE) @ SF
Matt Harrison 32% / 15% (TEX) vs. NYM
Randy Wolf 30% / 31% (MIL) vs. MIN
Paul Maholm 8% / 2% (PIT) vs. BOS
Vance Worley 2% / 1% (PHL) vs. OAK
My Pick: Carlos Carrasco @ Giants
Alternate: Tim Stauffer vs. Braves
Deep League Special: Worley vs. A’s

Carrasco is one of the hottest pitchers in baseball and is rocketing up the must have lists of fantasy owners. Combine that with facing the most futile offense in baseball the defending world champ Giants, and Carrasco’s road dominance (2.88 ERA vs. 3.85 home) and you have your best spot start. I actually like Carrasco for the medium to long term as well going forward.
Stauffer is your play if you’re only comfortable with more of a track record. He’s given up only 1 ER in his last 22 IP to go with 18 Ks but the Padres have only scored 2 runs in those 3 games. His career numbers against the Braves are passable (3.86/1.43/.295).
Worley is a nice little deep league pickup against the terrible A’s. Worley has been money is in his 3 starts at home this season (2.12 / 1.18 / .194 15K/17 IP).
Results from 6/22/11:
John Lannan: W, 5.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 K, 0 BB… Lannan continues his hot pitching streak and would have probably gone deeper into the game if he hadn’t taken an Ichiro liner off his heal and then reached 3rd on an error.
Season Results (my pick only):
41 GS, 19-6, 262.1 IP, 224 H, 77 ER, 200 K, 68 BB, 2.64 ERA, 1.11 WHIP
