Logan Morrison, OF Florida Marlins ( 47 percent owned in Yahoo, 89.1 percent in ESPN)
Current Stat Line: .266 AVG / 29 R / 12 HR / 42 RBI / 1 SB
Logan Morrison has turned it up as of late. Since June 30th he is batting .292 with 13 RBI (10 games). He is still hitting fifth for the Marlins so the RBIs should continue. I was surprised to see the huge disparity between Yahoo and ESPN but I think ESPN folks have it right.
Projection (rest of season): .277 AVG / 33 R / 7 HR / 37 RBI / 1 SB
Mark Ellis, 2B Colorado Rockies ( 9 percent owned in Yahoo, 14.8 percent in ESPN)
Current Stat Line: .233 AVG / 31 R / 3 HR / 23 RBI / 8 SB
The second base shuffle-up in Colorado continues as they are now on number six. It looks like a change of scenery was all Mark Ellis needed. Since his arrival he has hit .333/10/2/7/1 in only nine games. He has had useful fantasy seasons in the past so he may be worth a look.
Projection (rest of season): .270 AVG / 30 R / 5 HR / 25 RBI / 4 SB
Pedro Alvarez, 3B Pittsburgh Pirates ( 43 percent owned in Yahoo, 22.1 percent in ESPN)
Current Stat Line: .208 AVG / 12 R / 2 HR / 10 RBI / 1 SB
Pedro Alvarez has been activated off the DL and is currently rehabbing in AAA. I expect Alvarez to be promoted by the Pirates soon after the all-star break. The Pirates are currently rolling with a platoon of Brandon Wood, Josh Harrison and Chase d’Arnaud at third base. Alvarez will add some much-needed power to the Pittsburgh lineup.
Projection (rest of season): .245 AVG / 30 R / 9 HR / 40 RBI / 1 SB
Emilio Bonifacio, SS/3B/OF Florida Marlins ( 19 percent owned in Yahoo, 53.1 percent in ESPN)
Current Stat Line: .277 AVG / 35 R / 1 HR / 14 RBI / 13 SB
Bonifacio is trying to prove to the Marlins that he deserves to stay in the leadoff spot. He currently has an 11 game hitting streak and has stolen eight bases in his last ten games. He is eligible at SS/3B/OF and he has played three games at 2B. Depending on your league settings, he could be eligible at both MI spots by season’s end.
Projection (rest of season): .260 AVG / 36 R / 1 HR / 18 RBI / 16 SB
Jeff Karstens, SP/RP Pittsburgh Pirates ( 39 percent owned in Yahoo, 34.6 percent in ESPN)
Current Stat Line: 7 W / 4 L / 58 K / 2.55 ERA / 1.07 WHIP
Karstens deserves some credit. Since June 3rd he is 3-0 / 1.49 ERA / 0.85 WHIP. His splits at night are incredible, 6-0/1.86 ERA / 0.99 WHIP. It seems as though he is doing it with impeccable control (1.64 BB/9) and a bit of good fortune (3.82 FIP). Pick him up if he is sitting on waivers but don’t be afraid to drop him if he falters.
Projection (rest of season)- 5 W / 5 L / 55 K / 3.65 ERA / 1.15 WHIP
