Welcome back to Spot Starting. 100 degrees in the East (101 heat index at 7:30 am as I type this) and killer hot most everywhere else in the country, hope those players are hydrating. Me, I’ll be inside in the AC watching all weekend.
For games on Saturday July 23rd these selected pitchers might be had in your league (less than 50% owned in Yahoo! or ESPN) with percent owned Yahoo/ESPN, (team), and opponent:
Derek Lowe 46%/ 31% (ATL) @ CIN
Matt Harrison 46% / 53% (TEX) vs TOR
Edwin Jackson 36% / 13% (CWS) @ CLE
Josh Collmenter 31% / 27% (ARI) vs COL
Randy Wolf 26% / 21% (MIL) @ SF
Homer Bailey 16% / 6% (CIN) vs ATL
Chris Capuano 16% / 9% (NYM) @ FLA
Rich Harden 9% / 5% (OAK) @ NYY
My Pick: Josh Collmenter vs. Rockies
Alternate: Randy Wolf @ Giants
Deep League Special: Rich Harden @ Yankees
Collmenter is riding a 14 inning shut out streak and coming off an excellent 3 hit 7:0 outing against the mighty Brewers. He has been dominant at home – 5 starts, 40.1 IP, 28:6, 1.79/0.69/.159 – that is a sick slash line.
Wolf loves to pitch at AT&T Park – 2.59/0.93/.197 in 9 starts including a CG SHO last season.
Pickup Harden only if you need Ks as he hasn’t faired that well against the team formerly known as the Highlanders (re-watched Ken Burns Baseball inning 2 last night). He has 41Ks in 42.1 IP against the Yanks and had 9 in 7 IP his last start.
Results from Thursday 07.21.11:
Jonathan Niese vs Cardinals…L, 6 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 7 K, 1 BB…Niese continues to K a batter per inning but he gave up a 1st inning homer to Pujols and then his defense and offense let him down the rest of the way. At least he helped in K & WHIP.
Season Results (my pick only):
49 GS, 22-9, 311.1 IP, 276 H, 104 ER, 234 K, 81 BB, 3.01 ERA, 1.15 WHIP
