07.26.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

Brian McCann heads to the DL, so he won’t be the No. 1 Catcher for too much longer. Jose Bautista left another game and Collin Cowgill goes 0/4 with 2 K in his debut.

Onto it!

4th and Home Player of the Day: C.C. Sabathia – 7/1/1/14:3…Sabathia has been so dominant that you have to wonder if he turned it on too fast. I am feeling post-season meltdown out of C.C.

The Bats:
Chase Utley/Ryan Howard
– 4/8, 4 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI…Just like old times.

Greg Dobbs – 3/5, 2 R, HR, 5 RBI…What is this, the all ex and current Phillies BSB?

Derrek Lee – 4/5, 2 R, HR, 5 RBI…5 HR and 17 RBI through July, he looks to have another decent second half. I think I’m buying.

J.J. Hardy – 2/5, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI…What a waiver steal for all you luckies.

Dustin Pedroia – 4/5, 3 R, RBI…Who is the No. 1 Fantasy Second Baseman?

Billy Butler – 3/4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI…Look out! With 8 HR, Butler is on pace for 30…over 3 seasons. Who told you to take Logan Morrison before Butler? Oh yeah, the same guy who told you to pass on Ellsbury for Gardner!

Nelson Cruz – 3/3, 3 R, 2 RBI, SB…Cruz has been on fire. If you’ve been patient, he’s rewarding you.

Paul Konerko – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…Paulie has now gone two straight with a ding dong and you know how he can get on a roll. He could hit 50 this year!

Kelly Johnson – 3/4, R, 2 RBI, SB…Batting just .224 after a hot month back in May.

Scott Sizemore – 1/1, 3 R, 3 BB…Moneyball!

The Arms:
Vance Worley
– CG/3/2/5:1…Continues to raise his trade value for the Phils. You can guarantee he will never pitch this good again.

Jered Weaver – 7/5/1/5:2…14-4 with a 1.79 ERA and 0.95 WHIP. Think he’ll get some CY votes?

Josh Tomlin – 8/4/2/3:1…Solid in defeat and if your league doesn’t count losses, it was a great game.

Doug Fister – 7/7/3/5:1…With a 3.33 ERA and 1.17 WHIP, his 3-12 record is deceiving. If he was a Yankee he’d have 20 wins already.

Johnny Cueto – 5/7/0/5:1…Got the loss because he gave up 6 unearned. What happened to the Redlegs?!?

Joe Saunders – CG/6/1/4:1…A respectable 3.63 ERA and 1.31 WHIP. The ‘zona heat will push that ERA over 4 before you know it.

Brandon McCarthy – 8/6/1/3:2…This guy has been under the radar, but that could be said for all A’s pitchers.

Coming soon…the July Review of my September Stars Series…
