Welcome back to Spot Starting. Looks like I was wrong to be worried about Zito (his start was moved up a day, Phillies touched him up good. But that’s what it is to be a true Philadelphia fan, never cocky and always ready for the other shoe to drop.
For games on Wednesday July 28th these selected pitchers might be had in your league (less than 50% owned in Yahoo! or ESPN) with percent owned Yahoo/ESPN, (team), and opponent:
Matt Harrison 48% / 60% (TEX) vs. MIN
Kevin Correia 45% / 41% (PIT) @ ATL
Derek Lowe 44% / 28% (ATL) vs. PIT
Homer Bailey 17% / 8% (CIN) vs. NYM
Carlos Villanueva 13% / 4% (TOR) vs. BAL
Chris Capuano 13% / 5% (NYM) @ CIN
My Pick: Derek Lowe vs. Pirates
Alternate: Homer Bailey vs. Mets
Deep League Special: none
Lowe is an incredible 10-0 lifetime against the Pirates. Yes, I know this isn’t your older brother’s Pirates team but that kind of track record and at home is hard to bet against. He beat them 3 times in 3 tries last year putting up a 2.00/1.22/.258 slash line. McCutcheon has owned him, so if he pitches around him Lowe will pick up the W.
I’m really surprised Bailey has not faced the Mets before, so even though I don’t like his K and BB rates his last 3 starts, this could be a good matchup.
Season Results (my pick only):
51 GS, 24-9, 324.1 IP, 291 H, 109 ER, 241 K, 82 BB, 3.02 ERA, 1.15 WHIP
