Fantasy MLB Spot Starting 08.22.11

Welcome to another week of Spot Starting.  2 weeks left to go in our league’s regular season – yours may be in its last week depending on your playoff format.  That means every start counts even more.  Time to burn up those moves you have left to put it all on the line.

For games on Tuesday August 23rd these selected pitchers might be had in your league (less than 50% owned in Yahoo! or ESPN) with percent owned Yahoo/ESPN, (team), and opponent:

Bartolo Colon 46% / 44% (NYY) vs. OAK

Bud Norris 40% / 35% (HOU) @ COL

Jonathon Niese 36% /16% (NYM) @ PHL

John Lackey 28% / 18% (BOS) @ TEX

Brandon McCarthy 17% / 8% (OAK) @ NYY

Mike Minor 10% / 6% (ATL) @ ChC

My Pick: Bartolo Colon @ A’s

Alternate: Mike Minor @ Cubs

Deep League Special: Minor

Colon is the clear choice today going against the A’s.  He’s faced them twice before this season and has allowed only 2 ER in 16 IP, including his only CG SHO of the year.  He has a 10:0 K/BB rate against them to boot.

I also like Minor against the Cubbies.  He’s coming off a very strong 6 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 9K, 1 BB outing and just beat the Cubs before that.  Plus, the Braves just don’t seem to lose anymore.

Results from Friday 08.19.11:

Phil Hughes @ Twins: W, 7.2, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 K, 3 BB…Hughes again showed why he deserves to be in the Yankees rotation with a very impressive outing.  You’d like to see some more Ks but it’s very hard to complain with only 5 W+H over 7.2 IP.

Results from Saturday 08.20.11:

Randy Wolf @ Mets: ND, 6.1, 8H, 5 ER, 3 K, 1 BB…Wolf wasn’t very effective but he still left the game with a lead that was blown by the bullpen before the Brewers eventually came back.

Season Results (my pick only):

68 GS, 31-13, 422 IP, 394 H, 155 ER, 316 K, 115 BB, 3.31 ERA, 1.21 WHIP
