Welcome back to Spot Starting. Slim pickings for Thursday as per usual but as we’ve done all year, we dig deeper and move on!
For games on Thursday September 1st these selected pitchers might be had in your league (less than 50% owned in Yahoo! or ESPN) with percent owned Yahoo/ESPN, (team), and opponent:
A.J. Burnett 42% / 43% (NYY) @ BOS
Mike Leake 23% / 12% (CIN) vs. PHL
Fausto Carmona 13% / 11% (CLE) vs. OAK
Tommy Hunter 3% / 1% (BAL) vs. TOR
Danny Duffy 2% / 0.2% (KC) @ DET
My Pick: Fausto Carmona vs. A’s
Alternate: none
Deep League Special: Danny Duffy @ Tigers

A lightbulb just went off for me – 4/5 of the Yankees rotation has featured in Spot Starting this year. That doesn’t say very much for them, but yet they still have a chance to win the toughest division in sports. I wouldn’t touch Burnett with a thirty nine and a half foot poll, how he’s still owned by 43% of owners is beyond me.
Carmona is the best option we hav. Taking away his last start, he’s pitched well this month as he’s kept his walk rate down. He beat the A’s earlier this year at Oakland going 8 and allowing only 1 run on 5 hits.
Results from 08.30.01:
Javier Vazquez @ Mets – W, 7 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 6, 1 BB…Excellent outing from Vazquez as he continues to dominate at Citi and against Los Mets.
Season Results (my pick only):
70 GS, 32-15, 442.1 IP, 409 H, 162 ER, 333 K, 119 BB, 3.30 ERA, 1.20 WHIP
