Welcome back to Killin’ the Odds & the Regular Season!
In the “Today’s Games” section, you will see my picks to win for the day. I will post either the “Money Line” or the “Run Line”. The money line is always a “straight up” bet which means your team will never need to win or lose by a specific amount of runs. The money line odds represent what amount has to be wagered or what can be won. For example, if there is a minus sign (-) next to an amount, you have to wager that amount to win 100. If there is a plus sign (+) next to an amount, you will receive that amount for every 100 wagered. When you see a “Run Line”, that means a spread is involved. In Baseball, the spread is always 1.5 runs but you can find alternate run lines on some websites. When I post a run line of -1.5, that means our team must win by two runs. When you see a run line of +1.5, that means our team can lose by one run and still win the wager. Listen to our show from April 5th, 2011 for more explanation and tips.
Today’s Games 9/2/11
New York Mets (+103) @ Washington Nationals (-113) My Pick: New York Mets Money Line
The Mets have been playing pretty good ball recently winning six of their last seven while the Nationals have won one in their past nine. RA Dickey has pitched seven straight quality starts while posting a 2.93 ERA and 28:6 K:9. In Dickey’s five career starts at Nationals Park he has a 2.58 ERA and the Mets have actually been better on the road (36-33) than at home (30-36). The Nationals have scored the second fewest runs in all of baseball since the All-Star break.
Cincinnati Reds (+144) @ St. Louis Cardinals (-154) My Pick: Cincinnati Reds Money Line
Johnny Cueto has been outstanding this year and against the Cards’ he has only given up 3 ER in 22.2 IP. Carpenter has been pretty hit or miss and he gave up 6 ER in 5 IP against Pittsburgh in his most recent start. So far the Reds are up 7-5 in the season series. These two teams are pretty evenly matched so the +144 line is a superb value.
Results from 8/19/11
