Most leagues are in the semis or finals for their respective fantasy crowns this week. Here are some last hurrah widely available NL players who could be difference makers.
Raul Ibanez, OF, Philadelphia Phillies (37% Yahoo, 51.3% ESPN)
Current Stats: .249/59/18/72/2
Raul has heated up again the last two weeks, hitting .406 with a 1.128 OPS (2 HRs, 7 RBIs). He is a solid bet for some decent HR/RBI production if you need a replacement bat against righties, but monitor his playing time, as the Phils will undoubtedly try to keep him fresh for the playoffs.
My Prediction (all rest of the season): .275/8/3/8/0
Rafael Furcal, SS, St. Louis Cardinals (36% Yahoo, 28.3% ESPN)
Current Stats: .221/36/7/24/7
Another old-timer with ugly season numbers, Furcal has 4 HRs in last ten, solid plate discipline as evidenced by his 6 walks/5 Ks, and plays SS for a team desperately vying for a miracle playoff spot; what more could you want? Oh, he also has two steals in his last two on those 33 y.o. legs!
My Prediction: .275/10/2/8/2
Dexter Fowler, OF, Colorado Rockies (31% Yahoo, 47.8% ESPN)
Current Stats: .270/77/5/41/10
Mentioned here a month or so ago, he has been a run scoring, home run hitting machine in the last two weeks, with an awe-inspiring fantasy line of .333/12/5/7/2. I dont expect this pace the rest of the way, but something close to it, .365 BABIP be damned (he does have a career .344). He could be the most important waiver add these last couple of weeks, given his 5 category potential. Go get him!
My Prediction: .280/12/3/12/4
Ryan Doumit, C, Pittsburgh Pirates (11% Yahoo, 2.5% ESPN)
Current Stats: .297/14/8/26/0
Digging deeper, a name we used to see near the top of the catcher rankings has been resurrected. Doumit is hitting .424 with an 1.108 OPS in regular playing time the last two weeks. He only ranks behind Jesse Pointon crush Chooch Ruiz in Yahoo leagues the last 14 days, when looking solely at sparsely owned back stops – and Ruiz will probably see a lot of pine down the stretch. He also has OF eligibility in Yahoo.
My Prediction: .280/6/3/8/0
Aaron Harang, SP, San Diego Padres (40% Yahoo, 28.8% ESPN)
Current Stats: 3.74/1.39/112/13-5
Despite that god-awful season WHIP, he has been very good his last 4 starts (2-2, 1.08 WHIP, 6 ER in 26 IP, 24/9 K/BB). He also gets SF and LAD most likely 2 of his last 3 starts.
My Prediction: 4.00/1.25/16/2-0
