09.05.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

Now that the Northeast is restored from Irene, perhaps 4th and Home can restore itself as a staple in your diet…

The 4th and Home regular season has ended and just 4 are headed to the playoffs. The final standing of the nuts you know:

Mike      16-5-1
Killboy   15-5-2
Eric       12-10-0
Jesse     10-11-1
Chris      9-11-2
Brian      8-14-0

So now I play Jesse in Round 1 and Killboy and Eric square off.

Onto it!

4th and Home Player of the Day:Zach Stewart – 1-hit SHO/9:0…If you started him in this one, then you should be in Vegas.

The Bats:
Mike Morse – 2/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI…A .315/62/26/82/2 line through 2/3 of a season. I’ll never let go of the fact I dumped him in April.

Jesus Montero – 2/3, 3 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI…His first two longballs and a taste of 2012 for fans.

Mark Reynolds – 3/4, 3 R, HR, 2 RBI, SB…BSFU and he continues to prove me right as a major sleeper this year while everyone was jumping on the Pedro Alvarez love train.

Dexter Fowler – 3/5, 2 R, 2 HR, 2 RBI…Batting .307 in the 2nd half and I could see him being a cheap source of stats come 2012.

Evan Longoria – 1/2, 2 R, HR, RBI, SB…A BSFU for Longoria who has been coming on strong of late.

Note to self: You cannot leave posts in the DRAFT position. You must schedule them. There, posted yesterday’s article. Enjoy the tardy BSB!

Hurricane on its way up the East Coast. Hope all you East Coasters are out of harm’s way.

Onto it!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Bronx Bombers – Three grand slams. 22 runs. 21 hits. Just. Ridiculous.

The Bats:
Brian McCann – 2/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI…Pass on him every year. ADP way too high. Took Napoli in the last round and he is the #2 catcher. McCann? #4.

Curtis Granderson – 2/4, 4 R, HR, 5 RBI…He may wind up with 150 runs this year. In Chris’ lineup.

Russell Martin – 5/5, 3 R, 2 HR, 6 RBI…On Chris’ bench. OUCH!

Robinson Cano – 2/4, R, HR, 5 RBI…The final salami of the rout.

Paul Goldschmidt – 3/4, R, HR, 3 RBI, SB…BSFU! He Ks a ton, but I think he has a future.

My team went on a rampage tonight and hit 8 HR. Tomorrow they will hit zero.

Onto it!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Joey Votto – 5/7, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI…All in a day’s work.

The Bats:
Willy Mo Pena – 3/3, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI…The village bicycle finds a home in SafeCo (sort of) and provides enough offense for 4 King Felix starts.

Nick Swisher – 2/3, 2 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI…Not enough gusto to get pasto the A’s. Next stop? Afghanistan!

Coco Crisp – 4/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI…Coco went yardo like he was the Great Bambino.

Carl Crawford – 2/3, R, HR, 5 RBI…Could you imagine what the Sawx would be like if Crawford didn’t play like he cared?

Jacoby Ellsbury – 3/5, 3 R, HR, 2 RBI, SB…This is getting ridiculous. He must have 10 BSFUs this year.

Good show last night, chock-full of info. Football rankings rolling out next week.

Onto it!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Seth Smith – 2/3, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, SB…A BSFU in B2B games? Yeah, he’s our POD.

The Bats:
Shin-Soo Choo – 4/8, 2 R, HR, 5 RBI…On Killboy’s bench. Ha!

Kosuke Fukudome – 5/9, 4 R, HR, 2 RBI…On everyone’s wire!

Ryan Braun – 2/3, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 SB…This guy has no business stealing 28 bags in a season. Is he dating Davey Lopes behind Kemp’s back?

Brandon Allen – 2/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 2 RBI…Now batting .394 as an Athletic. Hmm…

Yonder Alonso – 3/4, R, HR, 4 RBI…Have liked this guy through the minors and he did his best Votto impression last night.

Handful of games last night. Before we check in on them, don’t forget Killboy and I will be on radio this evening. Check the tab up top or just click HERE.

Onto it!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Cliff Lee – 7/3/0/7:3…Shut down a dreadful Mets team. I mention my team is dreadful?

The Bats:
Ichiro – 3/5, R, HR, RBI…Pulling his Ricky Henderson impression to lead off the game. His 3rd dinger of the year. Look out!

Hunter Pence – 2/3, 4 R, HR, 2 RBI…Now halfway to his Astro HR total in a 1/5 of the games.

Jayson Werth – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI…Batting .229 now with 15 HR and 48 RBI. We knew he’d regress, but this is Beltre-like regression.

Ryan Doumit – 2/4, R, HR, 2 RBI…Coming alive. Batting north of .340 this month with 3 homers. Worth a grab.

Corey Hart – 3/6, 2 R, HR, RBI…Not bad a double dipper.

Onto it!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Yadier Molina – 2/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI…He start juicing?

The Bats:
Ryan Braun – 3/5, 2 R, RBI, 2 SB…30/30 well within reach now that he’s at 24/26. And a .330 average to boot? Tasty.

Delmon Young – 2/4, R, HR, 4 RBI…Delmon has been a different person since coming over to the Tigers. Who wouldathunk it?

Johnny Damon – 2/5, R, HR, 4 RBI, SB…Damon breakin’ out the BSFU! First 15/15 season since 2008 is attainable.

Casper Wells – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…Casper goes yard every other day it seems.

Y’all, I need to come clean. I have bashed Javier Vasquez since pre-season, but with Tommy Hanson making a DL trip – I picked him up and started him last night. I know, I know. Forgive me. I thought last night he would’ve burned me, and it did look that way after the first two innings, but he redeemed himself. Tough match-ups ahead so I’ll probably dump him.

Onto it!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Ricky Romero – 3-hit SHO/6:2…Sick stats for pitching on a bad team in a tough division: 12-9/2.73/1.11/147:63.

The Bats:
Alex Gordon – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…Leadoff hitter or not, Gordon has thrived this year. His current line is .297/76/16/64/12.

Paul Goldschmidt – 2/3, R, HR, RBI…B2B games with a blast. Still strikes out way too much. A full season next year could see 200+ K.

Mark Teixeira – 2/3, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…First homer in 10 games. Too bad his average isn’t even over .250.

Colby Rasmus – 3/4, 3 R, HR, 2 RBI…He’s alive. He’s alive! Batting just .253 for the Jays, which is better than his .246 for the Cards. 2012 sleeper. He has something to prove.

The home stretch! Love this time of year. Football starting, fantasy baseball ending. Excitement! Be sure to keep a look out for our football preview.

Onto it!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Brandon Morrow – 6/3/1/12:2…Dominating. You know he can do this on any given night. His strand rate is super high, so at some point he’s going to put it all together and put an amazing year together. He currently holds a line of 4.41/1.24 with 154 K in 132.2 IP. Sick.

The Bats:
Aramis Ramirez – 2/4, R, HR, 2 RBI…This guy has been crushing the ball since June and now he’s hitting close to .400 in August.

Angel Pagan – 2/5, R, 3 RBI, SB…Pagan has been a disappointment, but games like this give us false glimmers of hope he can end the season well.

Kurt Suzuki – 2/3, 2 R, 2 HR, 2 RBI…He’ll best his 2009 season of 15 HR (now has 12), but the .230 average keeps him off most teams.

Nick Markakis – 3/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…I am being serious when I say this, but a 15-homer guy is not worth a roster spot.

Allen Craig – 4/5, 2 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI…He’s BA-aaack…

Good show last night. So much info, so little time.

Onto it!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Jeff Niemann – CG/3/2/10:1…For Jesse. Awesome selection.

The Bats:
Mike Morse – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…Morse is now on pace for a 25/100 season. Can’t believe I dropped him when he started off cold. Ouch.

Andrew McCutchen – 2/3, R, HR, 3 RBI, SB…BSFU! Outside shot at 25 HR, but 30 SB may not be in the cards.

Jacoby Ellsbury – 2/7, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI…Is there any stopping this guy?

Robinson Cano – 2/5, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI…He’s heating up. 30 bombs? Outside chance.

Brian Bogusevic – 1/1, R, HR, 4 RBI…Walk-off Salami? Doesn’t get better than that!

History was made on Monday night by…

4th and Home Player of the Day: Jim Thome – 3/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI…Nos. 599 and 600. Historic and the quietest 600 home runs ever.

The Bats:
Jose Constanza – 3/3, R, RBI…”Can’t-Stand-Ya!” is now batting .414 as he shows Jason Heyward: “Bat – Ball – Hit Ball.”

Delmon Young – 2/4, R, HR, RBI…Traded to Detroit and then cranks one against his former team the SAME day (in his first at bat). Oh man…

Ryan Doumit – 4/4, R, HR, 3 RBI…Now batting .444 with 2 HR and 4 RBI since I saw him play at PNC. You’re welcome.

Derek Jeter – 3/4, R, 3 RBI, SB…Line now at .282/61/4/44/13. Killboy was WAY too nice.

Ryan Braun – 2/4, R, HR, RBI, SB…BSFU! He has an outside shot of the 30/30 club as he’s now sitting at 23/23. I say “nein.”
