05.06.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

Still trying to process how Cliff Lee can strike out 16 and lose, oh that’s right the Phil’s bats went back to sleep and they hate facing Derek Lowe who took a no-no into the 7th.

Here’s what else I saw:

The Bats:
Andre Ethier – 3/5… The Streak is now at 30!

Ryan Howard – 0/4 3 Ks… 3 for his last 24 since the Grand Slam

Chipper Jones – 2/5, R, RBI… Larry’s 24th RBI, 5th in the NL.

Jay Bruce – 1/4, R, HR, 3 RBI… Bruce’s 7th on the year, 2nd in as many days…could be going on a tear.

Jason Bourgeois – 3/5, R, SB… The Astros’ new lead off hitter is on a tear – 6 game hitting streak which includes 4 multi hit games and SBs in 5 of 6 games.  He better be on your radar by now if not in your lineup, now batting .412 with 12 sb!

Hunter Pence – 2/4, R, 2 RBI… Pence now batting .300 with 10 2B and 27 RBI… but when will some of these doubles start to leave the park (none the past 9 games)?

Derrek Lee – 1/3, R, HR, RBI, BB… Lee’s 3rd HR but it’s his 2nd this week – Lee is starting to show signs of life that Killboy was looking for as a sleeper candidate.

Adam Lind – 2/5, 2 R, 2 RBI, HR… Lind now batting .317 with 7 HR, 11 game hitting streak which includes 6 HR!  He is en fuego.

Jose Reyes – 3/4, 2 R, BB, SB… Joe King continues his quest to play his way out of Queens.

04.24.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

Josh Johnson – 7 IP, 3 H, ER, 6:3…Typical JJ. 13 hits now given up in 34 innings. That is ridiculous.

Ubaldo Jimenez – 5 IP, H, 3 ER, 7:4…He’s coming around and once he’s shaken off the rust he’s going to be dynamite. Buy low if you can

Max Scherzer – 8 IP, 4 H, 7:3…You missed your opportunity to buy low on this SP.

John Danks – 6 IP, 9 H, 3 ER, 8:2…Another fine start from Danks, but finds himself at (0-3).

David Wright – 2/4, 3 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI, BB, SB…Wright did everything in this one as he is really starting to heat up.

James Shields – SHO, 4 H, 7:2…Yes, it was the BJays but it was on the road where Shields has not been good in his career. That makes him (2-1) with a 2.35 ERA and 0.97 WHIP.

Ben Zobrist – 2/4, R, HR, 2 RBI, SB…B2B games now with a HR as he lifted his average over .200. Good job, Benny!

2011 Fantasy Baseball Sleepers: Gordon Beckham

Gordon Beckham’s 2010 season was riddled with inconsistencies and injuries.

In the first half of 2010, Beckham hit only .216 with three home runs. He was flirting with Mr. Mendoza the whole month of June, hitting .199 as late as June 23.

2011 National League East Previews: Braves

Today’s focus: Atlanta Braves

2010 Record 91-71 2nd Place NL East, Wild Card.  Lost to Giants in NLDS

The Braves will look to build on their 2010 Wild Card season as they enter 2011 with hopes of unseating the Phillies from the top of the NL East.  Their biggest change from last season is new skipper Fredi Gonzalez who takes over for the legendary Bobby Cox.  Gonzalez has a knack for getting the most from a young lineup and he has a good mix of young talent and proven veterans at his disposal.

Hot Stove Baseball: Spring Training Edition

Spring is here, kind of, as we had the start of baseball this weekend. All of us fantasy baseball fanatics have been waiting for this day since the end of last season and it’s been a long winter of withdrawal.

Without further ado, let’s get to the highlights from the games and the week of training:

Game Highlights

Friday

  • Giants 7, Diamondbacks 6 . Lincecum started and pitched 1 2/3 giving up 3 runs and 5 hits. Not a stellar start for the ace, but about typical for him in spring training. Joe Saunders started for Arizona and took the loss but had a nice 1-2-3 first inning. Aaron Rowand started in center with Andres Torres at DH, they are the 2 candidates for the CF job at the moment.
