08.22.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

Handful of games last night. Before we check in on them, don’t forget Killboy and I will be on radio this evening. Check the tab up top or just click HERE.

Onto it!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Cliff Lee – 7/3/0/7:3…Shut down a dreadful Mets team. I mention my team is dreadful?

The Bats:
Ichiro – 3/5, R, HR, RBI…Pulling his Ricky Henderson impression to lead off the game. His 3rd dinger of the year. Look out!

Hunter Pence – 2/3, 4 R, HR, 2 RBI…Now halfway to his Astro HR total in a 1/5 of the games.

Jayson Werth – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI…Batting .229 now with 15 HR and 48 RBI. We knew he’d regress, but this is Beltre-like regression.

Ryan Doumit – 2/4, R, HR, 2 RBI…Coming alive. Batting north of .340 this month with 3 homers. Worth a grab.

Corey Hart – 3/6, 2 R, HR, RBI…Not bad a double dipper.

Looks like slumps could be ending soon…

4th and Home Player of the Day: Nate Schierholtz – 3/6, 2 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI…”Schier Holtz!” Remember his love triangle with Maebe and George Michael?

The Bats:
Evan Longoria
– 3/6, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI…Him and D.Wright should inject some roids so they live up to their draft position!

Hunter Pence – 3/5, 2 R, 2 RBI, SB…A lot of sites are calling for him to regress, which will probably happen, but that doesn’t mean he won’t put up stats like years previous. Love me some Pence.

Ryan Zimmerman – 3/4, R, HR, 2 RBI…RBIs no. 14 and 15. Look out!

Dan Uggla – 2/3, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…B2B games with a homer and Uggly is now batting .183.

Jordan Schafer – 4/5, R, RBI, SB…Seems like he is tearing the cover off the ball lately – but he’s not.

Austin Jackson – 0/1, 2 R, 4 BB…Four walks?!?!?! Throw it over the plate, he won’t hit it!

Make sure to tune in tonight. Killboy and I are making our triumphant return to the airwaves at 8:30pm EST. The 4th and Home Show is back!

Onto the box scores…

4th and Home Player of the Day: Vernon Wells – 2/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI…After telling Jesse he should have dropped this guy months ago, Wells rewarded his faithful owners.

The Bats:
Emilio Bonafacio
– 3/6, 2 R, RBI…Doing his best HanRam impression.

Mike Stanton – 2/4, R, 2 RBI…Also added a walk and did not strike out. The average was way up there, but now he’s down to .259.

Miguel Montero – 3/5, 2 R, 4 RBI…Montero is healthy and rewarding owners. IMO, he is a C1 for the rest of the season.

Hunter Pence – 3/4, R, HR, 4 RBI…Pence is now at .325/33/9/50/3. If Pence goes .300/100/25/100/10 does he become a 2nd round pick next year?

Jordan Schafer – 2/5, R, HR, 3 RBI…This from the lead-off spot.

Interleague play always bring interesting games. Like the Mets being up 3-1 and ready to take the series from the Yanks and then giving up an 8-run inning to lose the game (and series).

Ugh…onto it…

4th and Home Player of the Day: James Shields – SHO, 3 H, 13:1…Big Game James continues to dominate. This start was just nasty!

The Bats:
Asdrubal Cabrera
– 5/5, 2 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI…Wow. He now has 9 HR on the season (most in his career) and is looking to break all of his past single-season records. Yeah, I told you he was juicing.

Michael Brantley – 3/4, 3 R, 2 RBI, SB…Guy continues to produce, mostly since we talked about him on the Show of course.

Joey Votto – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…Votto’s been absent for a bit from this piece, so it’s good to see him back. Batting .335 with 6 HR and 28 RBI.

Jay Bruce – 2/4, R, HR, RBI…If Jose Bautista did not exist, we’d be talking about Bruce. He has been ON FIRE. He’s now up to .271 with 11 HR and 27 RBI.

Alex Rodriguez – 4/5, R, RBI…Got the average back up to .284!

Curtis Granderson – 1/4, R, HR, RBI…Number 16. Unreal.

A happy Mother’s Day out there to all of you Mexican mommies. Didn’t know Me-he-co had their own Mother’s Day…

4th and Home Player of the Day: Josh Willingham – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 5 RBI…Despite the .235 average, J-Willy has 6 HR and 22 RBI.

Here’s what else I saw:

The Bats:
Gaby Sanchez
– 3/4, R, HR, 3 RBI…Dirty is on fire of late. Seems like I just wrote about him. Oh wait…

Chris Coghlan – 3/4, R, RBI, BB, SB…Consistency would do him some good, but a nice line vs. the Phils.

Jimmy Rollins – 2/5, 2 R, HR, RBI…The power hasn’t been there, but his other numbers are up to par with the bounceback calls during the pre-season.

Victor Martinez – 3/4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI, BB…Batting .409 since coming off the DL last week.

Still trying to process how Cliff Lee can strike out 16 and lose, oh that’s right the Phil’s bats went back to sleep and they hate facing Derek Lowe who took a no-no into the 7th.

Here’s what else I saw:

The Bats:
Andre Ethier – 3/5… The Streak is now at 30!

Ryan Howard – 0/4 3 Ks… 3 for his last 24 since the Grand Slam

Chipper Jones – 2/5, R, RBI… Larry’s 24th RBI, 5th in the NL.

Jay Bruce – 1/4, R, HR, 3 RBI… Bruce’s 7th on the year, 2nd in as many days…could be going on a tear.

Jason Bourgeois – 3/5, R, SB… The Astros’ new lead off hitter is on a tear – 6 game hitting streak which includes 4 multi hit games and SBs in 5 of 6 games.  He better be on your radar by now if not in your lineup, now batting .412 with 12 sb!

Hunter Pence – 2/4, R, 2 RBI… Pence now batting .300 with 10 2B and 27 RBI… but when will some of these doubles start to leave the park (none the past 9 games)?

Derrek Lee – 1/3, R, HR, RBI, BB… Lee’s 3rd HR but it’s his 2nd this week – Lee is starting to show signs of life that Killboy was looking for as a sleeper candidate.

Adam Lind – 2/5, 2 R, 2 RBI, HR… Lind now batting .317 with 7 HR, 11 game hitting streak which includes 6 HR!  He is en fuego.

Jose Reyes – 3/4, 2 R, BB, SB… Joe King continues his quest to play his way out of Queens.

Killin’ the Odds & the Regular Season

Welcome back to Killin’ the Odds & the Regular Season! In the “Today’s Games” section, you will see my picks to win for the day. I will post either the “Money Line” or the “Run Line”. The money line is always a “straight up” bet which means your team will never need to win or lose by a specific amount of runs. The money line odds represent what amount has to be wagered or what can be won. For example, if there is a minus sign (-) next to an amount, you have to wager that amount to win 100. If there is a plus sign (+) next to an amount, you will receive that amount for every 100 wagered. When you see a “Run Line”, that means a spread is involved. In Baseball, the spread is always 1.5 runs but you can find alternate run lines on some websites. When I post a run line of -1.5, that means our team must win by two runs. When you see a run line of +1.5, that means our team can lose by one run and still win the wager. Listen to our show from April 5th, 2011 for more explanation and tips.

04.26.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

The Bats:
Wilson Ramos – 3/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI…Former Twins’ catching prospect now hitting .378 for the Nats.

Grady Sizemore – 3/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…Looking healthy as ever. Average now at .406.

Shin-Soo Choo – 2/4, R, HR, 4 RBI, SB…Filling up the box score. Mentioned him briefly on last night’s show.

Melky Cabrera – 3/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB, SB…Another box-score filler-upper!

Paul Konerko – 2/5, R, HR, 2 RBI…6 HR and 19 RBI now.

Brent Lillibridge – 1/1, R…Made b2b amazing defensive plays to close the game out for the ChiSox. He should’ve gotten the save in lieu of Santos.

Starlin Castro – 4/5, 2 R, 3 RBI, SB…The prodigy keeps on hitting. Sure he doesn’t walk much, but he doesn’t strike out much either.

Darwin Barney – 3/5, 2 R, 3 RBI, SB…Have not talked about Barney, but I think he’s worth monitoring about now. He’s batting .323 at a thin position (2B).

The Ted Lilly/Ryan Dempster Connection – 10 IP, 20 H, 12 ER, 6:4…Dreadful. Hope you didn’t start either of them. IMO Dempster should’ve been benched in all leagues until he starts showing something.

Brandon Morrow – 5.1 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 10:2…Fresh off the DL (he’s still on mine), Morrow showed us why he was hyped so much this pre-season. The guy is electric and looks to build on his nearly 18K/9 rate heading into his 2nd start at TEX. If he is somehow on your wire, I hope he’s no longer there. If he was owned, I hope you swooped in and bought low.

National League Central Previews: Astros

Today’s Focus:  Houston Astros

2010 Record:  76-86, 4th Place NL Central

After trading away long time Astros, Roy Oswalt and Lance Berkman, last summer, Houston is looking to the next generation to lead this team.  Hunter Pence becomes the de facto leader of the team with 3 full seasons of solid play under his belt.  The Stro’s are also hoping their young corner infielders Brett Wallace and Chris Johnson can develop into productive major leaguers.  Johnson seems to be up for the challenge, he posted strong numbers after his 2010 call up, but Wallace may not be ready for prime time yet.
