08.24.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

My team went on a rampage tonight and hit 8 HR. Tomorrow they will hit zero.

Onto it!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Joey Votto – 5/7, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI…All in a day’s work.

The Bats:
Willy Mo Pena – 3/3, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI…The village bicycle finds a home in SafeCo (sort of) and provides enough offense for 4 King Felix starts.

Nick Swisher – 2/3, 2 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI…Not enough gusto to get pasto the A’s. Next stop? Afghanistan!

Coco Crisp – 4/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI…Coco went yardo like he was the Great Bambino.

Carl Crawford – 2/3, R, HR, 5 RBI…Could you imagine what the Sawx would be like if Crawford didn’t play like he cared?

Jacoby Ellsbury – 3/5, 3 R, HR, 2 RBI, SB…This is getting ridiculous. He must have 10 BSFUs this year.

Good show last night. So much info, so little time.

Onto it!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Jeff Niemann – CG/3/2/10:1…For Jesse. Awesome selection.

The Bats:
Mike Morse – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…Morse is now on pace for a 25/100 season. Can’t believe I dropped him when he started off cold. Ouch.

Andrew McCutchen – 2/3, R, HR, 3 RBI, SB…BSFU! Outside shot at 25 HR, but 30 SB may not be in the cards.

Jacoby Ellsbury – 2/7, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI…Is there any stopping this guy?

Robinson Cano – 2/5, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI…He’s heating up. 30 bombs? Outside chance.

Brian Bogusevic – 1/1, R, HR, 4 RBI…Walk-off Salami? Doesn’t get better than that!

Proof where I was…first timer!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Jacoby Ellsbury – 2/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 2 RBI…Career year as he slipped in drafts when jerks like me were telling you to pass.

The Bats:
Jay Bruce
– 2/2, R, SB…Another hot month and he’ll finish the year with 35 bombs and double-digit steals. Might’ve been your last year to get him cheap.

Jayson Werth – 3/5, R, HR, 2 RBI…Will you be happy with a .220/20/60 final line? No? Well that’s what you’re getting.

Jimmy Rollins – 3/5, 4 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI…Facing Dempster on a bad Dempster day is like Christmas in July.

Hideki Matsui – 3/4, R, HR, 3 RBI…A Werth-like .220/15/75 for a tenth of the price.

Looks like slumps could be ending soon…

4th and Home Player of the Day: Nate Schierholtz – 3/6, 2 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI…”Schier Holtz!” Remember his love triangle with Maebe and George Michael?

The Bats:
Evan Longoria
– 3/6, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI…Him and D.Wright should inject some roids so they live up to their draft position!

Hunter Pence – 3/5, 2 R, 2 RBI, SB…A lot of sites are calling for him to regress, which will probably happen, but that doesn’t mean he won’t put up stats like years previous. Love me some Pence.

Ryan Zimmerman – 3/4, R, HR, 2 RBI…RBIs no. 14 and 15. Look out!

Dan Uggla – 2/3, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…B2B games with a homer and Uggly is now batting .183.

Jordan Schafer – 4/5, R, RBI, SB…Seems like he is tearing the cover off the ball lately – but he’s not.

Austin Jackson – 0/1, 2 R, 4 BB…Four walks?!?!?! Throw it over the plate, he won’t hit it!

Full schedule last night, so let’s get into it…

4th and Home Player of the Day: Adrian Gonzalez – 3/6, 2 R, 2 HR, 3 RBIHe is making up for lost time in a big way lately.

The Bats:
Andrew McCutchen
– 3/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 2 RBI…Despite the .242 average, McCutch now has 7 HR and 19 RBI.

Matt Kemp – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI…Kemp has cooled off in May, much to Jesse’s delight, but tonight was a nice showing. He is now batting .336 with 7 HR and 24 RBI.

Martin Prado – 2/5, 2 R, HR, RBI…Prado has had a quiet year, but his numbers aren’t too shabby.

Jayson Werth – 1/4, R, HR, 3 RBI…The average is still terrible, but I think he is a nice buy low.

Derek Jeter – 2/4, R, RBI, SB…Look who’s still kicking!

Victor Martinez – 3/4, 2 R, 4 RBI, BB…Continues to rake!

Austin Jackson – 2/5, R, BB, SB…Last fourĀ  games have been nice. Rest of season? Not so good.

Thanks to Jesse for getting me caught up on baseball over the weekend. Was a nice read after being in the car seven hours. I can’t believe New York drivers get such a bad wrap, because Massachusetts drivers are by far the worst!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Derek Jeter – 4/6, 2 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI, SB…Box score filler-upper! Nearly won Jesse his game over future bro-in-law Chris, but no-can-do.

Here’s what else I saw:

The Bats:
Hanley Ramirez
– 1/5, R, RBI, SB…Still batting under .200 and as we’re well into May, his season is reminding me of David Wright’s 2009.

Gaby Sanchez – 4/4, 3 R, HR, 3 RBI, BB…Gaby is up to .328 with 4 HR and 20 RBI as the Fish’s clean-up hitter. In OBP leagues he is the MAN!

Andre Ethier – 2/4, R, HR, 2 RBI…A one-game hit streak is ALIVE!

B.J. Upton – 2/4, 4 RBI…Upton is racking up the ribbies. He might break Hack Wilson’s record if he faces the Orioles weekly.

Jacoby Ellsbury – 3/5, R, SB…17-game hit streak and hitting close to .300 now thanks to a .371 May.

Adrian Gonzalez – 3/5, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…A-Gonz is heating up.

Kevin Youkilis – 2/4, 4 R…The Youka! or The Greek Gawd of Waks! if you will. Didn’t know he had the legs to get 4 runs in a game. First time since July 11th, 2009.

Andre Ethier kept his hit-streak alive with a weak infield blooper to the left side.28 and counting!

Anyway, here’s what else I saw:

The Bats:
Alex Avila
– 2/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 2 RBI…Hey, Brian told you he had power last weekend!

David Ortiz – 2/4, R, HR, 2 RBI…He’s batting .277 now. Surprised me too!

Jacoby Ellsbury – 2/4, 3 R, 2 SB…Good one, Mike. Sure Brett Gardner will put up equal stats…

Paul Konerko – 2/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI…Drop-off from last year? I think not! 8 HR and 24 RBI while hitting .302. Nice!

Alex Rios – 2/4, 2 R, HR, RBI, SB…Box Score filler-upper!

Ok, so if it isn’t bad enough for Killboy that he owns Gallardo and Liriano, I was perusing match-ups tonight and came across his pitching for the night. I see Ryan Dempster’s ERA at 189.00 and WHIP at 24.00.
HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?!?!!?
Shazam that has to be a record. I have never seen anything like that before in fantasy baseball. It’s the craziest thing I’ve seen since I had Clinton Portis go off for 200+ yards and 5 TDs! Mind-boggling.

Anyway, here’s what else I saw:

That's right, Jesse does love you.

The Bats:
Ben Zobrist – 7/10, 5 R, 2 HR, 10 RBI, SB…If you can believe it, Jesse did NOT have him on his bench. Simply one of the best fantasy game(s) you could ask for. He more than filled the box score in game one alone.

Ian Desmond – 2/4, 2 R, HR, RBI…New daddy belts a homer and raises his average to .220! Makin’ baby proud!

Elvis Andrus – 2/4, R, 3 SB…Now up to 7 SB and is on pace for 40+. Still, I was hoping for 50 this year. Andrus stinks.

Travis Snider – 1/4, K…Batting .184 this year will not cut it for the greatest team in baseball. It gets you sent to AAA.

Starlin Castro – 4/5, 2 R, 3 RBI, SB…The prodigy keeps on hitting. Sure he doesn’t walk much, but he doesn’t strike out much either.

Darwin Barney – 3/5, 2 R, 3 RBI, SB…Have not talked about Barney, but I think he’s worth monitoring about now. He’s batting .323 at a thin position (2B).

The Ted Lilly/Ryan Dempster Connection – 10 IP, 20 H, 12 ER, 6:4…Dreadful. Hope you didn’t start either of them. IMO Dempster should’ve been benched in all leagues until he starts showing something.

Brandon Morrow – 5.1 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 10:2…Fresh off the DL (he’s still on mine), Morrow showed us why he was hyped so much this pre-season. The guy is electric and looks to build on his nearly 18K/9 rate heading into his 2nd start at TEX. If he is somehow on your wire, I hope he’s no longer there. If he was owned, I hope you swooped in and bought low.

A full slate of great games on the second Saturday of the season including a Doubleheader in Baltimore and a suspended game in San Diego. Kudos to the schedule makers for all the great divisional rivalries right off the bat – none better than Yankees-Red Sox which always has a playoff atmosphere and tons of fantasy implications. The Red Sox were desperate to build on Friday’s first win, but it was not to be as the Yanks prevailed 9-4. Not to be outdone, the Phillies hot bats picked right back up after Friday’s loss to crush their chief rival Braves 10-2. The Rangers were blanked in the opener by the O’s but then turned around and spanked them in the night cap 13-1. And then we had A’s at Twins – wow, what a slug fest as the A’s prevail 1-0 behind Gio. Neither of these teams can hit their way out of a wet paper bag. The Rays nightmare April continues as they dropped to 1-7 reminiscent of their pre-2008 dominance. The Giants Miguel Tejada walked off on the Cardinals to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 win.
