08.14.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

Our league has just 3 H2H weeks left. Here are the standings of the nuts you know:

4th and Home Player of the Day: Albert Pujols – 3/4, R, HR, 2 RBI…Here for one reason.

The Bats:
Brandon Belt – 2/4, 2R, 2 HR, 2 RBI…Not a bad return from AAA!

Jay Bruce – 1/4, R, HR, 3 RBI…Well, I said it before but if Bruce is heating up now he’ll most likely go cold for your H2H playoffs.

Michael Bourn – 3/4, R, 2 RBI, 2 SB…What the Braves needed. Killboy’s love affair continues.

Nick Markakis – 3/5, R, HR, 4 RBI…Still not upset I dropped his @ss two months ago. BORING!

Matt Kemp – 2/4, R, HR, 2 RBI, SB…BSFU! 2 HR to go for the 30/30 club.

Back from “The Burgh!” PNC Park…best stadium I’ve ever been in. Simply amazing, but watched them drop their 8th straight. Not good as they now have NO chance of getting to October. Thanks to Jesse for filling in admirably. Kid writes novels!

Onto it!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Seth Smith – 2/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI…A very respectable season thus far. If you can platoon him, you’d be “aight.”

The Bats:
Michael Bourn – 2/5, 2 R, RBI, SB…Steal No. 42 and counting.

J.J. Hardy – 3/5, R, HR, 4 RBI…HR No. 20 on the season as he’s been a top option at Short this year. If he batted clean-up, he’d have a shot at 100 RBI easily. Well, maybe 70 for the O’s.

Jay Bruce – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI…There we go. Those long droughts are what made me trade him in our keeper. I do love the power potential though. Maybe NEXT year is his year.

Todd Helton – 3/5, 3 R, HR, 3 RBI…What has come of Helton? He has been a monster recently!

Jason Kubel – 3/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…He is loving life after the break.

David Ortiz – 4/5, 3 R, HR, 3 RBI…Papi was sliding on the road, but he busted out big time in this one.

Proof where I was…first timer!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Jacoby Ellsbury – 2/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 2 RBI…Career year as he slipped in drafts when jerks like me were telling you to pass.

The Bats:
Jay Bruce
– 2/2, R, SB…Another hot month and he’ll finish the year with 35 bombs and double-digit steals. Might’ve been your last year to get him cheap.

Jayson Werth – 3/5, R, HR, 2 RBI…Will you be happy with a .220/20/60 final line? No? Well that’s what you’re getting.

Jimmy Rollins – 3/5, 4 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI…Facing Dempster on a bad Dempster day is like Christmas in July.

Hideki Matsui – 3/4, R, HR, 3 RBI…A Werth-like .220/15/75 for a tenth of the price.

Looks like slumps could be ending soon…

4th and Home Player of the Day: Nate Schierholtz – 3/6, 2 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI…”Schier Holtz!” Remember his love triangle with Maebe and George Michael?

The Bats:
Evan Longoria
– 3/6, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI…Him and D.Wright should inject some roids so they live up to their draft position!

Hunter Pence – 3/5, 2 R, 2 RBI, SB…A lot of sites are calling for him to regress, which will probably happen, but that doesn’t mean he won’t put up stats like years previous. Love me some Pence.

Ryan Zimmerman – 3/4, R, HR, 2 RBI…RBIs no. 14 and 15. Look out!

Dan Uggla – 2/3, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…B2B games with a homer and Uggly is now batting .183.

Jordan Schafer – 4/5, R, RBI, SB…Seems like he is tearing the cover off the ball lately – but he’s not.

Austin Jackson – 0/1, 2 R, 4 BB…Four walks?!?!?! Throw it over the plate, he won’t hit it!

Make sure to tune in tonight. Killboy and I are making our triumphant return to the airwaves at 8:30pm EST. The 4th and Home Show is back!

Onto the box scores…

4th and Home Player of the Day: Vernon Wells – 2/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI…After telling Jesse he should have dropped this guy months ago, Wells rewarded his faithful owners.

The Bats:
Emilio Bonafacio
– 3/6, 2 R, RBI…Doing his best HanRam impression.

Mike Stanton – 2/4, R, 2 RBI…Also added a walk and did not strike out. The average was way up there, but now he’s down to .259.

Miguel Montero – 3/5, 2 R, 4 RBI…Montero is healthy and rewarding owners. IMO, he is a C1 for the rest of the season.

Hunter Pence – 3/4, R, HR, 4 RBI…Pence is now at .325/33/9/50/3. If Pence goes .300/100/25/100/10 does he become a 2nd round pick next year?

Jordan Schafer – 2/5, R, HR, 3 RBI…This from the lead-off spot.

A rather tame evening at Citizens Bank Park last night, although Jesse was yelling at the Polish String Band’s lack of dancers.

Let’s get into the few games from last night…

4th and Home Player of the Day: Brennan Boesch – 5/6, 3 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI…Wow. Just. Wow.

The Bats:
Prince Fielder
– 2/3, R, HR, 4 RBI…Up to 49 RBI. He leads the NL now.

Ryan Braun – 2/4, 2 R, RBI, SB…Without the long ball, Braun is still a box score beast!

Michael Brantley – 3/4, 2 R, HR, RBI…Tell me he is owned in your league. Tell me!

Asdrubal Cabrera – 3/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…The Roid Homer Binge continues. He now has 12 in 240 ABs. Coming into this year he had 18 in 1,415. Just sayin’…

Jonny Gomes – 2/3, R, HR, 4 RBI…All or nothing. Last night? All.

Jay Bruce – 3/4, 3 R…2 doubles out of the clean-up spot. Wait, Dusty moved his hottest hitter to the 4-hole?

It was Thursday, so not a full slate of games. Short Breakdown today…

4th and Home Player of the Day: Aubrey Huff – 4/4, 3 R, 3 HR, 6 RBI…Aubrey Huff pulling this performance out of the George “Taco” Bell 1988 archives…

The Bats:
Carlos Beltran
– 2/4, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI…He’s not the Beltran we all remember, but he’s having a good enough year to make us think he’s still in his prime.

Neil Walker – 2/5, R, HR, 4 RBI…37 RBI now for the Bucs’ cleanup hitter. He’s like the NL Cano this year!

Xavier Paul – 4/5, 3 R, RBI, 2 SB…Did he wear Tabata’s jersey from April yesterday?

Endy Chavez – 4/4, 2 R, RBI, SB…When your #9 hitter does this, you’re gonna win.

Colby Rasmus – 2/5, R, HR, 6 RBI…Guy finally goes yard after I trade him. Figures!

Well, we’ve made it to June and your non-paid writers here (including myself) seem to be taking a lot of vacation time – from work and from our site. Hopefully we can all get back on track soon and we certainly do appreciate you continuing to check in hoping to find more poorly written articles from a bunch of couch managers…

Onto it!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Ubaldo Jimenez – SHO, 4 H, 7:0…He is here because I own him and I am overjoyed (only to be p-ssed next start when he implodes again) that he made it past the 2nd inning! Hopefully for us owners this is a sign of things to come…

The Bats:
Nelson Cruz
– 3/4, RBI, SB…The legs are back. Did you buy while he was DL’d?

David Ortiz – 2/4, 2 R, HR, RBI…Batting .313. Amazing and if you have him, you got him cheap, didn’t you?

Alexei Ramirez – 3/5, 3 R, RBI…Batting .297. As I said previously, 2011 will be a career year for ‘lexei.

Paul Konerko – 3/4, R, HR, 3 RBI…Did you know: Konerko is up to 12 HR and 44 RBI? Who does he think he is, Jay Bruce?

Martin Prado – 2/4, 2 R, HR, RBI…Average is creeping up and so are the counting stats.

Not a whole lot of games, but enough. Can’t believe the Reds and Phillies had to play a day game today. Killer!

Onto it…

4th and Home Player of the Day: Chase Utley – 1/5, R, HR, RBI…Had to be Chase. After a very long off-season, Utley hits his first home run of 2011. Owners rejoice!

The Bats:
Raul Ibanez
– 2/5, R, HR, 3 RBI…Despite the 1/8 night on Wednesday/Thursday, Ibanez has been heating up.

Jay Bruce – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…Number 14 and is now two up on Braun and Kemp.

Nolan Reimold – 4/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI…One of my favorite prospects who could not put it all together. What a nice game. Terrible AAA year, but he’s been decent in a handful of games in Balti this year.

Carl Crawford – 4/5, 2 R, 3 RBI…B2B 4-hit games and he’s now up to .244 (.333 in May).

Funerals are never fun and being out-of-town made it hard to keep you all up to date with my opinions on the daily box scores. So as I get back into it, drooling as Matt Joyce went yard AGAIN the other night, this is what I saw LAST night…

4th and Home Player of the Day: Wilson Valdez (PHI 2B) – 3/6…Decent game at the plate filling in for Chase Utley. But, he entered in the 19th to pick up the win as he pitched one inning of scoreless ball! Player of the Day!

The Bats:
Steve Pearce
– 3/5, R, HR, 2 RBI…The once-touted Pirate prospect is seeing some time now that Pedro Alvarez is on the DL. Ship has sailed.

Dan Uggla – 0/5, 3 K…Now batting .180. Ouch. Actually…OUCH! Most of you had high hopes for him this year and this is not looking pretty.

Dustin Pedroia – 2/6, R, HR, 3 RBI…Guess he wasn’t too hurt.

Carl Crawford – 4/4, 3 R, HR, 2 RBI…Average sits at .229. He’s coming along, but maybe won’t be the No. 1 OF I expected pre-season.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI…I expcted better from him this year, but I think the Braves traded the correct backstop despite the “experts'” opinions on the matter.

Prince Fielder – 2/2, 4 RBI…Been a rough May, so maybe this gets him out of the funk.
