07.31.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

Pence to the Phils, Bourn to the Braves? Yeah, two teams wanting a ring. I love it. That’s what the trade deadline is all about! Gonna love watching the NL East into September this year. And be careful of my Mets who are going to play spoiler this year…

Onto it, friends!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Raul Ibanez – 3/5, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI…All he needed was for Dom to be sent down?

The Bats:
Joey Votto
– 2/4, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI…Four HR in the last 6 games, the big stick is back!

Alex Gordon – 2/4, 2 R, HR, RBI…A .302/63/14/58/9 line from Gordon? Yeah, it’s a bounceback since he’s on pace for .300/90/20/90. Very, very nice.

Scott Hairston – 2/2, 2 R, 2 HR, 2 RBI…Two HR as a pinch-hitter? We should pinch-hit him every night!

Jason Bourgeois – 1/4, 2 R ,HR, 3 RBI, 2 SB…Goodbye, Bourn. HELLO, BSFU!

07.28.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

Just a few days left and some big names have yet to move. I picked up Ryan Ludwick because I’m convinced he’ll be a Phillie and if not, being part of the Sawx carries equal fantasy weight.

4th and Home Player of the Day: Desmond Jennings – 3/4, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI, SB…That was fast. Few games into his career and he makes the BSB POD. Yeah, he’s for real. Upton can leave.

The Bats:
Miguel Cabrera
– 2/5, 2 R, HR, RBI…At the end of the day his numbers won’t look like last year’s, but they’ll still be first round quality.

Mark Trumbo – 3/5, 3 R, HR, 5 RBI…Missed the cycle by a single? You’d think the triple would be elusive for the big man!

Erik Aybar – 3/4, R, 2 RBI, SB…Straight up for Reyes (rumor)? No, but closer than you think.

Joey Votto – 2/5, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…Three straight with a jack. Must think he’s Billy Butler. What?

Dustin Pedroia – 1/3, R, HR, RBI, SB…BSFU! STILL on fire.

Billy Butler – 1/4, R, HR, 3 RBI…Votto’s biggest fan.

Ryan Braun – 3/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…Looks like he’ll come close to matching his 2009 season.

2011 Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Gems: National League

Seth Smith, OF Colorado Rockies ( 39 Percent owned in Yahoo, 66 percent in ESPN)

Current Stat Line- .315 AVG / 36 R / 8 HR / 33 RBI / 3 SB

We should ┬árename this post, “Seth Smith and Four Other NL Waiver Wire Gems.” I have been putting Smith’s name up here every other week yet he gets no respect. His .396 wOBA ranks 13th in all of baseball just behind Votto, Braun, Granderson, and Upton (the good one). His .919 OPS ranks him 12th in the MLB.

06.02.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

It was Thursday, so not a full slate of games. Short Breakdown today…

4th and Home Player of the Day: Aubrey Huff – 4/4, 3 R, 3 HR, 6 RBI…Aubrey Huff pulling this performance out of the George “Taco” Bell 1988 archives…

The Bats:
Carlos Beltran
– 2/4, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI…He’s not the Beltran we all remember, but he’s having a good enough year to make us think he’s still in his prime.

Neil Walker – 2/5, R, HR, 4 RBI…37 RBI now for the Bucs’ cleanup hitter. He’s like the NL Cano this year!

Xavier Paul – 4/5, 3 R, RBI, 2 SB…Did he wear Tabata’s jersey from April yesterday?

Endy Chavez – 4/4, 2 R, RBI, SB…When your #9 hitter does this, you’re gonna win.

Colby Rasmus – 2/5, R, HR, 6 RBI…Guy finally goes yard after I trade him. Figures!

Well, we’ve made it to June and your non-paid writers here (including myself) seem to be taking a lot of vacation time – from work and from our site. Hopefully we can all get back on track soon and we certainly do appreciate you continuing to check in hoping to find more poorly written articles from a bunch of couch managers…

Onto it!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Ubaldo Jimenez – SHO, 4 H, 7:0…He is here because I own him and I am overjoyed (only to be p-ssed next start when he implodes again) that he made it past the 2nd inning! Hopefully for us owners this is a sign of things to come…

The Bats:
Nelson Cruz
– 3/4, RBI, SB…The legs are back. Did you buy while he was DL’d?

David Ortiz – 2/4, 2 R, HR, RBI…Batting .313. Amazing and if you have him, you got him cheap, didn’t you?

Alexei Ramirez – 3/5, 3 R, RBI…Batting .297. As I said previously, 2011 will be a career year for ‘lexei.

Paul Konerko – 3/4, R, HR, 3 RBI…Did you know: Konerko is up to 12 HR and 44 RBI? Who does he think he is, Jay Bruce?

Martin Prado – 2/4, 2 R, HR, RBI…Average is creeping up and so are the counting stats.

Interleague play always bring interesting games. Like the Mets being up 3-1 and ready to take the series from the Yanks and then giving up an 8-run inning to lose the game (and series).

Ugh…onto it…

4th and Home Player of the Day: James Shields – SHO, 3 H, 13:1…Big Game James continues to dominate. This start was just nasty!

The Bats:
Asdrubal Cabrera
– 5/5, 2 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI…Wow. He now has 9 HR on the season (most in his career) and is looking to break all of his past single-season records. Yeah, I told you he was juicing.

Michael Brantley – 3/4, 3 R, 2 RBI, SB…Guy continues to produce, mostly since we talked about him on the Show of course.

Joey Votto – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…Votto’s been absent for a bit from this piece, so it’s good to see him back. Batting .335 with 6 HR and 28 RBI.

Jay Bruce – 2/4, R, HR, RBI…If Jose Bautista did not exist, we’d be talking about Bruce. He has been ON FIRE. He’s now up to .271 with 11 HR and 27 RBI.

Alex Rodriguez – 4/5, R, RBI…Got the average back up to .284!

Curtis Granderson – 1/4, R, HR, RBI…Number 16. Unreal.

04.28.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

Ok, so if it isn’t bad enough for Killboy that he owns Gallardo and Liriano, I was perusing match-ups tonight and came across his pitching for the night. I see Ryan Dempster’s ERA at 189.00 and WHIP at 24.00.
HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?!?!!?
Shazam that has to be a record. I have never seen anything like that before in fantasy baseball. It’s the craziest thing I’ve seen since I had Clinton Portis go off for 200+ yards and 5 TDs! Mind-boggling.

Anyway, here’s what else I saw:

That's right, Jesse does love you.

The Bats:
Ben Zobrist – 7/10, 5 R, 2 HR, 10 RBI, SB…If you can believe it, Jesse did NOT have him on his bench. Simply one of the best fantasy game(s) you could ask for. He more than filled the box score in game one alone.

Ian Desmond – 2/4, 2 R, HR, RBI…New daddy belts a homer and raises his average to .220! Makin’ baby proud!

Elvis Andrus – 2/4, R, 3 SB…Now up to 7 SB and is on pace for 40+. Still, I was hoping for 50 this year. Andrus stinks.

Travis Snider – 1/4, K…Batting .184 this year will not cut it for the greatest team in baseball. It gets you sent to AAA.

The Bats:
Joey Votto – 2/4, R, HR, 4 RBI, 2 BB…Just another day at the ballpark.

Drew Stubbs – 2/5, 3 R, HR, RBI, BB…Walks up, Ks down and less streakiness for this “September Star”.

Jeff Francoeur – 2/4, R, HR, RBI…Frenchy continues to rake and the only noticeable change in his peripherals is that he’s hitting a lot more ground balls than ever before. Uhm, regression is coming.

Matt Kemp – 1/5, R, HR, 2 RBI, BB…Well, he did it again. His second walk-off this week. I’ll admit he’s slowing down, but you wouldn’t know it if you asked LAD fans.

Jair Jurrjens – 6 IP, 7 H, ER, 6:2…I talked about him Tuesday night and he did his best to make me look smart by out-dueling Kershaw. Came out with the lead before Linebrink blew it, only to have Kimbrel blow it later.

Freddie Freeman – 2/3, R, HR, RBI, 2 BB…2 HR in his last 3 games, FF is doing all he can do garner your attention. There are other guys I’d rather have at first, but he should put up respectable numbers there this year. A nice 9:11 ratio so far.

Kyle Lohse – SHO, 2 H, 6:2…Lohse does this every year. Don’t fall for it, but you could always do a lot worse.

Matt Holliday – 2/3, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB…Matty boy keep hitting as he’s now at .455.

Albert Pujols – 1/3, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB…Here he comes…

04.13.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

Max Scherzer – 6 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 7:2…Couldn’t get the win vs. a tough Rangers team, but ended with a nice stat line.

Francisco Liriano – 5 IP, 8 H, 7 ER, 4:1…Wow. Just. Wow. Not sure what’s going on with Liriano, but the 6-run 4th pretty much did him in. Now has a 12:9 ratio.

Alex Gordon – 2/5, R, 2 RBI…Keeps hitting. Now at .346. Too early to call it a bounce-back. It is promising though…

Mike Aviles – 2/4, R, 3 RBI – Mike has let me down since my glowing post about him. Nonetheless, it was good to see he still has a pulse.

ChiSox Bullpen – 2 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 3:3…All four of Ozzie’s closers were terrible. This is a situation to avoid. Grabbed Thornton as my #1, but dropped him last week. They all stink.

John Danks – 8 IP, 5 H, ER, 7:3…Robbed of a win by the jokesters in the bullpen. Danks continues to do well and always seems to be under the radar on draft day.

Jason Vargas – 6.2 IP, 5 H, ER, 7:1…Seattle’s #3 on my team? Not a chance!

Alex Rodriguez – 2/3, R, HR, 2 RBI, BB…A-Rod blasted his 4th and he is looking like the 50-homer A-Rod.

Travis Wood – 6.2 IP, 5 H, ER, 5:3…Wood deserved a win, but the bullpen let him down.

Joey Votto – 3/4, R, RBI, SB…Votto is up to .444. The power is coming.

Shaun Marcum – 7 IP, 4 H, 4:1…Marcum was dealing! He was also dealing with shoulder issues in the spring, but he is earning that sleeper status. He’s now (2-1) with a 2.55 ERA and 1.19 WHIP.

Prince Fielder – 1/4, R, HR, 3 RBI…As Jesse said Saturday, Prince is locked in.

Roy Halladay – CG, 6 H, 2 ER, 9:2…Roy was: Roy. Had his shutout broken up in the 9th. Now (2-0) with a 1.23 ERA and 0.91 WHIP. Haha!

Josh Johnson – 7.1 IP, H, 9:3…Johnson was awesome as he AGAIN flirted with a no-no.

Troy Tulowitzki – 3/4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI, BB…Tulow hit his 5th and now has 12 RBI to go along with his .306 average. MVP-to-be?

Aramis Ramirez – 3/5, R, RBI…Now up to .326. Keeps hitting.

Lance Berkman – 1/3, 2 R, HR, 5 RBI, BB…I think Puma is getting our attention. A Salami last night and he is now thriving hitting behind Pujols at .293/4/11.

Colby Rasmus – 3/6, 3 R, 2 RBI…Rasmus hit his first two doubles of the year and is now at .375. I snatched Colby in our league. Love the potential and was hoping THIS was the year. We shall see.

Russell Branyan – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB…Another start for Branyan and he’s now hitting .421 with his first HR and RBI on the year. Monitor him since he is a cheap source of power and looks to be getting more PT.

Ian Kennedy – 3 IP, 7 H, 9 ER, 1:2…I did not want him on any of my teams this year, so if you drop him I’d be ok with it.

Jonathan Sanchez – 6 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 9:2…Sanchez got his first win, doing what he does best – striking guys out. The two walks is a great sign as he now has a 24:7 ratio in 16.2 innings. His walks have dropped each year and I wanted him this year. Didn’t happen.
