08.16.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

Good show last night. So much info, so little time.

Onto it!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Jeff Niemann – CG/3/2/10:1…For Jesse. Awesome selection.

The Bats:
Mike Morse – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…Morse is now on pace for a 25/100 season. Can’t believe I dropped him when he started off cold. Ouch.

Andrew McCutchen – 2/3, R, HR, 3 RBI, SB…BSFU! Outside shot at 25 HR, but 30 SB may not be in the cards.

Jacoby Ellsbury – 2/7, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI…Is there any stopping this guy?

Robinson Cano – 2/5, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI…He’s heating up. 30 bombs? Outside chance.

Brian Bogusevic – 1/1, R, HR, 4 RBI…Walk-off Salami? Doesn’t get better than that!

Did you catch Jesse on The 4th and Home Show last night?

4th and Home Player of the Day: Curtis Granderson – 3/6, 3 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI…A 50/30 season? Possible now!

The Bats:
Aramis Ramirez
– 1/4, R, HR, 2 RBI…That makes 8 HR in his last 12 games. Yeah, his power is back.

Derek Jeter – 2/6, R, 2 RBI…4 hits shy of 3,000 now.

Brandon Wood – 2/3, R, HR, 3 RBI…Oh yeah, I remember this guy. Quad-A stud.

Jose Bautista – 2/4, R, HR, 2 RBI…No. 28 and counting.

Matt Holliday – 2/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI…Holliday seems to produce more power in the second half in his old age. Looks like he’s starting early this year.

4th and Home Player of the Day:

The Bats:
Geovany Soto
– 1/1, R, HR, 3 RBI…Pinch-hit 3-run walk-off home run. Sign of things to come? You’d have to think so.

Pablo Sandoval – 2/6, r, HR, RBI, SB…2nd career BSFU!

Ryan Howard – 2/3, R, HR, 2 RBI…Are him and Teixeira not the exact same player anymore?

Jason Varitek – 2/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 2 RBI…”Idiot.”

Andy Dirks – 2/3, 2 R, HR, RBI, SB…BSFU for the Rook!

Mark Teixeira – 1/4, R, HR, RBI….On pace for 50 bombs. Average stinks. Guy is an anomaly.

Killin’ the Odds & the Regular Season

Welcome back to Killin’ the Odds & the Regular Season! In the “Today’s Games” section, you will see my picks to win for the day. I will post either the “Money Line” or the “Run Line”. The money line is always a “straight up” bet which means your team will never need to win or lose by a specific amount of runs. The money line odds represent what amount has to be wagered or what can be won. For example, if there is a minus sign (-) next to an amount, you have to wager that amount to win 100. If there is a plus sign (+) next to an amount, you will receive that amount for every 100 wagered. When you see a “Run Line”, that means a spread is involved. In Baseball, the spread is always 1.5 runs but you can find alternate run lines on some websites. When I post a run line of -1.5, that means our team must win by two runs. When you see a run line of +1.5, that means our team can lose by one run and still win the wager. Listen to our show from April 5th, 2011 for more explanation and tips.

Funerals are never fun and being out-of-town made it hard to keep you all up to date with my opinions on the daily box scores. So as I get back into it, drooling as Matt Joyce went yard AGAIN the other night, this is what I saw LAST night…

4th and Home Player of the Day: Wilson Valdez (PHI 2B) – 3/6…Decent game at the plate filling in for Chase Utley. But, he entered in the 19th to pick up the win as he pitched one inning of scoreless ball! Player of the Day!

The Bats:
Steve Pearce
– 3/5, R, HR, 2 RBI…The once-touted Pirate prospect is seeing some time now that Pedro Alvarez is on the DL. Ship has sailed.

Dan Uggla – 0/5, 3 K…Now batting .180. Ouch. Actually…OUCH! Most of you had high hopes for him this year and this is not looking pretty.

Dustin Pedroia – 2/6, R, HR, 3 RBI…Guess he wasn’t too hurt.

Carl Crawford – 4/4, 3 R, HR, 2 RBI…Average sits at .229. He’s coming along, but maybe won’t be the No. 1 OF I expected pre-season.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI…I expcted better from him this year, but I think the Braves traded the correct backstop despite the “experts'” opinions on the matter.

Prince Fielder – 2/2, 4 RBI…Been a rough May, so maybe this gets him out of the funk.

After crapping the bed the entire season, Francisco Liriano NO-HIT the Chicago White Sox. I am willing to bet the people that are still holding onto him, had him on their bench. I know Killboy did! That stinks. Great start, but not without concern as he K’d only 2 and walked 6. If you’re looking to sell, now is the time and be sure you point out the no-hitter and how he has “turned the corner” after noticing a mechanical flaw before this start. Good luck.

Anyway, here’s what else I saw:

The Bats:
Scott Sizemore
– 3/4, R, RBI…Recently recalled – and starting – second baseman could provide value in your middle infield.

Adrian Gonzalez – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…Don’t talk about him much, but he’s quietly hitting .316 with 2 HR and 20 RBI.

Brett Wallace – 2/5, 2 R, HR, RBI, BB…Continues to hit. He’s now at .383 and in the clean-up spot, I assume until El Caballo comes back.

Jose Reyes – 3/3, R, RBI, 3 BB, SB…Joe King is the most consistent Met as he may be auditioning for another team. He’s now batting .325 with 11 steals.

Carlos Beltran – 2/4, R, HR, 3 RBI, BB…How about that. Hitting .283 and playing every day. Let him sit on your wire.

Ok, so if it isn’t bad enough for Killboy that he owns Gallardo and Liriano, I was perusing match-ups tonight and came across his pitching for the night. I see Ryan Dempster’s ERA at 189.00 and WHIP at 24.00.
Shazam that has to be a record. I have never seen anything like that before in fantasy baseball. It’s the craziest thing I’ve seen since I had Clinton Portis go off for 200+ yards and 5 TDs! Mind-boggling.

Anyway, here’s what else I saw:

That's right, Jesse does love you.

The Bats:
Ben Zobrist – 7/10, 5 R, 2 HR, 10 RBI, SB…If you can believe it, Jesse did NOT have him on his bench. Simply one of the best fantasy game(s) you could ask for. He more than filled the box score in game one alone.

Ian Desmond – 2/4, 2 R, HR, RBI…New daddy belts a homer and raises his average to .220! Makin’ baby proud!

Elvis Andrus – 2/4, R, 3 SB…Now up to 7 SB and is on pace for 40+. Still, I was hoping for 50 this year. Andrus stinks.

Travis Snider – 1/4, K…Batting .184 this year will not cut it for the greatest team in baseball. It gets you sent to AAA.

Chad Billingsley – 6.1 IP, 7 H, ER, 3:3…Not flashy, but effective.

Kosuke Fukudome – 3/4, R…Batting .417 on the year now with 15 hits; all singles.

Juan Uribe – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI…2 HR and 9 RBI in his last 3 games.

Justin Verlander – 7 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 8:0…Arguably the best April of his career now.

Ryan Raburn – 2/5, R, HR, 4 RBI…B2B games with a homer. Hopefully this begins his ascension into “stardom.”

Carlos Quentin – 2/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 2 RBI…3 HR in his last three games, Quentin is putting up very solid numbers thus far.

04.17.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

Andrew McCutchen – 3/3, R, HR, 3 RBI, 2 BB…McCutch, is that you? It’s about time you start showing up. Now you’re batting .250 and most of us expect you to hit .300 this year. So, that means you need more of these days. Hang out with Tabata in the dugout, not Alvarez.

Jose Tabata – 1/5, R, HR, RBI, SB…Tabata is doing what I thought he would do. I can’t see him keeping this up, but he will continue to steal bases, just don’t expect 20 HR. 3 HR and 8 SB so far. Must think he’s Matt Kemp.

Garrett Jones – 2/4, R, HR, RBI, BB, SB…Ok, folks. Time to start monitoring Jones. That makes three straight multi-hit games. Remember 2009?

Pedro Alvarez – 0/4, 2 K…Something needs to give. Either bench him or send him to AAA. This is just bad and the exact reason I did not reach for him. He has K issues worse than NYC club-goers. He’s now batting .193 with 20K in 15 games.

Jay Bruce – 4/5, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…Now we’re talkin’! Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuce! Few more games like this and he’ll be batting .400 with 40 HR by All-Star break.

Grady Sizemore – 2/4, R, HR, RBI…Hmm, is this that former first round 30/30 threat?

Fausto Carmona – 7 IP, 5 H, ER, 5:1…I said that as long as he doesn’t walk people, he’ll be fine. Pitching against the Orioles doesn’t hurt either. Now has a 1.27 ERA since his Opening Day bed-crapping.

Jose Reyes – 2/4, 2 R, BB, SB…Reyes is now up to 6 doubles and 6 stolen bases while hitting .315. Everybody clap your hands!

Dillon Gee – 5.2 IP, 5 H, ER, 4:2…Take that, Braves! A little Gee to shut you down. Beat Tommy Hanson too. Look out!

Tommy Hanson – 5 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 9:2…Now (1-3). Maybe I overvalued the guy, but I was certain this was his year to shine. Still early, Mike. Still early.

Jon Lester – 6 IP, 6 H, ER, 5:3…Not incredibly sharp, but good enough today. 10 K in his next start. Book it.

Cole Hamels – 7 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 7:2…The kind of start you want to see, but a 2-run 6th prevented him from getting the W.

Anibal Sanchez – 6 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 8:4…Still too many baserunners.

Placido Polanco – 3/4, R, HR, RBI…Did you know he’s batting .373? Me either. Gonna score a lot of runs in that 2-hole.

Brian Duensing – 7 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 5:2…Not bad. Monitor him as he has two nice match-ups coming up.

Livan Hernandez – 7 IP, 6 H, ER, 3:0…Don’t do it. Don’t do it. Do NOT pick him up.

Danny Espinosa – 2/7, R, HR, 6 RBI…Jesse’s lovefest continues.

Ian Desmond – 4/8, 2 R, HR, RBI, SB…He’s getting ready to push that average over .200…

Michael Pineda – 6 IP, 3 H, ER, 5:4…Three great starts to start his career off. No way he should be on the wire unless you’re in a two-teamer with yourself.

Dan Haren – 6.1 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 6:0…Now with a 27/2 K:BB ratio and a 1.16 ERA and 0.65 WHIP. At 4-0 he is the #1 fantasy pitcher.

Trevor Cahill – 8 IP, 4 H, ER, 9:0…Are you kidding me? Are you KIDDING me?

Seth Smith – 2/2, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…Headed for an even better stat line before injuring himself. Seth was a popular deep sleeper this year. Guy has 7 doubles and is hitting .312. Let’s see if he’ll be back soon. Maybe he’ll end up on Killboy’s waiver list next week.

Carlos Gonzalez – 4/5, R, 2 RBI, SB…CarGo is heating up. I think I might have said that already.

Aaron Rowand – 2/5, R…Rowand now has 4 multi-hit games in his last 5.

Justin Upton – 2/4, 3 R, HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB…I try not to regret draft picks so early, but right now I am kicking myself for taking McCutchen over him.

Madison Bumgarner – 6.2 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 2:1…I am CONVINCED something is wrong with him.

Matt Kemp – 3/4, R, HR, 2 RBI, CS…Walk-off! Here is your #1 fantasy batter. He’s batting .474 now. Chasing Hornsby!

Chad Billingsley – 8 IP, 2 H, 11:2…Hate Billingsley and then he proves me stupid for saying that. Just an awesome start Broxton blew, but thankfully for Dodger fans there is…

Ryan Franklin – 0 IP, ER…Now has 4 blown saves and I would have to imagine Mitchell Boggs is the new Cardinal closer. Boggs went 3-up/3-down in his inning. But Boggs didn’t face Kemp!

Matt Holliday – 3/3, R, BB…Quietly hitting .441.

Adrian Beltre – 3/4, R, HR, 4 RBI…Beltre did everything he could to defeat the Yanks on his own.

Ian Kinsler – 0/4, R, BB…Hitting .170. The slide continues.

Brett Gardner – 0/2, K…Hitting .140. More sliding.

04.12.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

Well, if you listened to our show last night it was a zoo! Actually, if you didn’t listen- besides it being a zoo- we broke down the Josh Hamilton injury and who you want to grab in his two month absence.

Angel Sanchez – 4/5, 2 R, 2 RBI…Speaking of the show, Killboy talked about Sanchez as a possible fill-in if you lost Rafael Furcal to injury.

Michael Bourn – 2/5, 4 R, RBI, 2 SB…Bourn looks like he’s breaking out and is now up to .268 and 4 steals.

Hunter Pence – 3/4, R, 4 RBI…Pence is quietly having a nice season so far, batting .326 with 9 RBI. 9 ribbies in that lineup!

Brett Myers -7 IP, 8 H, ER, 5:0…Speaking of quietly, Myers now has a 1.77 ERA and 1.13 WHIP through three starts.

Marlon Byrd – 3/3…Look out. It’s that time of year again. If you need a quick Hamilton fill-in, Byrd seems to put nice streaks together. He’s up to .391 and has 6 multi-hit games in his last 7.

Michael Young – 3/3, 2 R, RBI, SB…Second baseman Mike Young had a nice first start at second. Expect him to continue to see plenty of PT while Hamilton is out.

Jayson Werth – 2/3, 2 R, HR, RBI, BB, SB…Pow! Werth filled up the box score. Owners wish he could face Joe Blanton 162 games a year.

Wilson Ramos -2/3, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB…Former Twins’ prospect has been HOT and now appears to get an increase in PT. Monitor.

Tommy Hanson – 7 IP, 4 H, 5:2…Owners, rejoice! Hanson finally turned in a start we expected. Gets the Mess next. Tasty!

David Price – 7.2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3:2…Price finally had a great start and it was to get out of the basement! Killboy still no likey.

Jon Lester – 7 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 8:2…Poor Lester. Should probably be (2-1). Instead, he is (0-1).

Alexei Ramirez – 2/4, 3 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI, BB…Walk-off! Just wait until his Cuban blood heats up with the weather!

Dan Haren – SHO, H, 8:2…Haren with an impressive outing against the Tribe to end their 8-game win streak. Guess 120 wins IS out of the question.

Fausto Carmona – 7.2, 4, 2, 6:3…On the losing end of Haren’s gem. Carmona has been solid, now sporting a 1.27 ERA is his last two starts. Cherry pickin’!

Late games…

Chris Carpenter – 4 IP, 8 H, 8 ER, 4:3…In the slugfest that occurred in ‘Zona, Carp got caught in the middle. Just. Ouch. He is now (0-2) and sporting a 5.82 ERA and 1.35 ERA through three starts. It isn’t all bad. He should probably be (2-1).

Justin Upton – 1/3, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI, 2 BB…WOW. Did you (see) his moonshot that traveled an estimated 478 feet by HitTrackerOnline.com?

Chris B. Young – 3/4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI, BB…Young is batting .302 in the early going with a 2:9 BB:K ratio. Yeah, nothing’s changed. That .302 will come down to .250 in no time.

Lance Berkman – 3/5, R, HR, 2 RBI, BB…I could post every player from the Cards/DBacks game, but Berkman is up to .289 and since Brian hyped him I have to put him here.

Drew Stubbs – 2/6, R, HR, 4 RBI…Stubbs being Stubbs. A home run and two strike outs.

Sam LeCure – 6 IP, H, ER, 8:2…A very nice start against San Diego Middle School. LeCure will be headed to the minors soon.

Clayton Richard – 7.2 IP, 5 H, ER, 4:2…Petco is to pitchers what Coors used to be to hitters. Richard and other Friar pitchers will be more than serviceable in home starts.

Corey Patterson – 2/4, 2 RBI, BB…We touched on him on the show last night, but Corey is being Corey. When he plays, he produces. Might not be a bad short-term play.

Michael Pineda – 7.1 IP, 5 H, ER, 7:2…Pineda is showing why he was- and still is- a top talent. Will be some bumps in the road, but he looks as advertised.

Ricky Romero – 8 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 8:2…A nice start from Romero and after three starts he’s at (1-0) with a 1.66 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 20:4 in 21.2 innings. Beat downs are coming…

Tim Lincecum – 5.1 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 4:1…Mitch from Dazed and Confused needed a lot of pitches in this one. Affeldt blew the save, so Timmy deserved a dubya.

Chad Billingsley – 5 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 6:2…Sorry, just not a fan. Check tha record.

Ok, I won’t bring up my favorite Dodger…I could though! He was caught stealing last night. Uh oh…back to 2010-Kemp?
