08.22.11 Box Score Breakdown: Fantasy MLB News and Notes

Handful of games last night. Before we check in on them, don’t forget Killboy and I will be on radio this evening. Check the tab up top or just click HERE.

Onto it!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Cliff Lee – 7/3/0/7:3…Shut down a dreadful Mets team. I mention my team is dreadful?

The Bats:
Ichiro – 3/5, R, HR, RBI…Pulling his Ricky Henderson impression to lead off the game. His 3rd dinger of the year. Look out!

Hunter Pence – 2/3, 4 R, HR, 2 RBI…Now halfway to his Astro HR total in a 1/5 of the games.

Jayson Werth – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI…Batting .229 now with 15 HR and 48 RBI. We knew he’d regress, but this is Beltre-like regression.

Ryan Doumit – 2/4, R, HR, 2 RBI…Coming alive. Batting north of .340 this month with 3 homers. Worth a grab.

Corey Hart – 3/6, 2 R, HR, RBI…Not bad a double dipper.

Killin’ the Odds & the Regular Season

Welcome back to Killin’ the Odds & the Regular Season! In the “Today’s Games” section, you will see my picks to win for the day. I will post either the “Money Line” or the “Run Line”. The money line is always a “straight up” bet which means your team will never need to win or lose by a specific amount of runs. The money line odds represent what amount has to be wagered or what can be won. For example, if there is a minus sign (-) next to an amount, you have to wager that amount to win 100. If there is a plus sign (+) next to an amount, you will receive that amount for every 100 wagered. When you see a “Run Line”, that means a spread is involved. In Baseball, the spread is always 1.5 runs but you can find alternate run lines on some websites. When I post a run line of -1.5, that means our team must win by two runs. When you see a run line of +1.5, that means our team can lose by one run and still win the wager. Listen to our show from April 5th, 2011 for more explanation and tips.

Good show last night. So much info, so little time.

Onto it!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Jeff Niemann – CG/3/2/10:1…For Jesse. Awesome selection.

The Bats:
Mike Morse – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…Morse is now on pace for a 25/100 season. Can’t believe I dropped him when he started off cold. Ouch.

Andrew McCutchen – 2/3, R, HR, 3 RBI, SB…BSFU! Outside shot at 25 HR, but 30 SB may not be in the cards.

Jacoby Ellsbury – 2/7, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI…Is there any stopping this guy?

Robinson Cano – 2/5, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI…He’s heating up. 30 bombs? Outside chance.

Brian Bogusevic – 1/1, R, HR, 4 RBI…Walk-off Salami? Doesn’t get better than that!

Pence to the Phils, Bourn to the Braves? Yeah, two teams wanting a ring. I love it. That’s what the trade deadline is all about! Gonna love watching the NL East into September this year. And be careful of my Mets who are going to play spoiler this year…

Onto it, friends!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Raul Ibanez – 3/5, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI…All he needed was for Dom to be sent down?

The Bats:
Joey Votto
– 2/4, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI…Four HR in the last 6 games, the big stick is back!

Alex Gordon – 2/4, 2 R, HR, RBI…A .302/63/14/58/9 line from Gordon? Yeah, it’s a bounceback since he’s on pace for .300/90/20/90. Very, very nice.

Scott Hairston – 2/2, 2 R, 2 HR, 2 RBI…Two HR as a pinch-hitter? We should pinch-hit him every night!

Jason Bourgeois – 1/4, 2 R ,HR, 3 RBI, 2 SB…Goodbye, Bourn. HELLO, BSFU!

Derek Jeter made history over the weekend by getting his 3,000th hit. Could it have gone any differently for him? The hit was a home run and what a way to put himself in the books. Jeter is a first-ballot Hall of Famer and although I think he is one of the more overrated players of this generation, there is nothing overrated about accumulating 3,000 hits. My thoughts aside, a great day for Derek and the Yankee faithful. And yes, I would’ve sold that ball to the highest bidder. it’s tough times and you must be nuts to give a ball away that was worth thousands.

Onto it…

4th and Home Player of the Day: C.C. Sabathia – 4-hit SHO/9:1…Sabathia has been as dominant as they come. Look for a great second half from him.

The Bats:
Emilio Bonafacio
– 3/3, 2 R, 3 SB…Just a few short years ago he was the hottest pick-up in April. Now? Not so much. (Though he’s been red hot of late!)

Eric Thames – 3/5, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…The Pepperdine product has been scorching since his recall. Take a look.

Raul Ibanez – 2/5, 2 R, HR, 6 RBI…Ibanez has had an awesome 5-game stretch.

Did you catch Jesse on The 4th and Home Show last night?

4th and Home Player of the Day: Curtis Granderson – 3/6, 3 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI…A 50/30 season? Possible now!

The Bats:
Aramis Ramirez
– 1/4, R, HR, 2 RBI…That makes 8 HR in his last 12 games. Yeah, his power is back.

Derek Jeter – 2/6, R, 2 RBI…4 hits shy of 3,000 now.

Brandon Wood – 2/3, R, HR, 3 RBI…Oh yeah, I remember this guy. Quad-A stud.

Jose Bautista – 2/4, R, HR, 2 RBI…No. 28 and counting.

Matt Holliday – 2/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI…Holliday seems to produce more power in the second half in his old age. Looks like he’s starting early this year.

4th and Home Player of the Day:

The Bats:
Geovany Soto
– 1/1, R, HR, 3 RBI…Pinch-hit 3-run walk-off home run. Sign of things to come? You’d have to think so.

Pablo Sandoval – 2/6, r, HR, RBI, SB…2nd career BSFU!

Ryan Howard – 2/3, R, HR, 2 RBI…Are him and Teixeira not the exact same player anymore?

Jason Varitek – 2/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 2 RBI…”Idiot.”

Andy Dirks – 2/3, 2 R, HR, RBI, SB…BSFU for the Rook!

Mark Teixeira – 1/4, R, HR, RBI….On pace for 50 bombs. Average stinks. Guy is an anomaly.

In a day owners were prepared to be without Fat Albert for a few months, he still had a stellar day at the plate.

4th and Home Player of the Day: Albert Pujols – 3/3, 2 R, HR, RBI…Would’ve been more unreal if he put up this line WITH a fat-@ss wrist…

The Bats:
Carlos Santana
– 2/3, 2 R, HR, RBI…Is he finally busting out? Let’s check back in next Monday.

Dustin Pedroia – 3/4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…The Sawx should scare owners more with “surgery” talk. He’s been a madman (with power) since we first learned of a possible surgery.

Mark Reynolds – 3/4, 2 R, HR, RBI…3 hits and now definitely over the Mendoza at .217.

J.J. Hardy – 2/4, 2 R, HR, RBI…Speaking of madmen, Hardy has been an awesome pick-up for the O’s and fantasy managers alike.

Skip Schumaker – 2/2, R, HR, 2 RBI…Walk-off!

A great show last night. You have to listen to hear the crazy Killboy story. Too insane to believe!

Onto it!

4th and Home Player of the Day: Justin Verlander – 2-hit SHO, 12K…Verlander walked Brantley in the 7th to end the perfect game and then gave up a single to Cabrera in the 8th to end the no-no. Besides that, another dominating outing by Verlander.

The Bats:
Domonic Brown
– 2/4, 2 R, 2 HR, 2 RBI…The Rook is holding his own. I think he may explode this summer.

Jimmy Rollins – 2/5, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI…J-Roll needs to get going for owners and the Phillies.

Chase Utley – 2/3, R, HR, 2 RBI…I think he is just about BACK.

Shane Victorino – 3/5, 2 R…Look for him also to explode this summer when the Phillies offense starts clicking.

Brett Gardner – 3/4, 3 R, RBI, SB…Time for him to get going while Loverboy is on the DL.

Curtis Granderson – 2/4, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI…The HRs just keep on coming.

Nick Swisher – 2/3, 2 R, HR, RBI…Been a rough year so far for Swish.
