2011 Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Gems: American League

Derrek Lee, 1B Baltimore Orioles (26 percent owned in Yahoo, 28.8 percent in ESPN)

Current Stat Line- .247 AVG / 26 R / 5 HR / 19 RBI / 2 SB

Lee has certainly not lived up to expectations so far in 2011 but his bat seems to be coming alive. In the past seven games Lee has hit .438 with five XBH and six runs. He has been shuffled between the fourth and sixth spot in the lineup so if he can stay healthy, he should help your team in AVG and RBI.

National League East Previews: Marlins

Today’s focus: Florida Marlins


2010 Record: 80-82, 3rd Place NL East (tied for 8th in NL)

The Marlins have now played 8 seasons since winning the second of their two world championships and in their 18 seasons overall, they still have never won their division.  In contrast, the Phillies have played 128 and won the same number of titles.  All this is to say, the Marlins are very good at catching lightning in a bottle and also very good at letting it walk out the door the next year to remain within their modest payroll.  The Marlins have been stringing more and more keys to their kite the past few years with the emergence of Josh Johnson, Chris Coghlan, Mike Stanton, and Logan Morrison to add to the star power of Hanley Ramirez.

2011 National League East Previews: Braves

Today’s focus: Atlanta Braves

2010 Record 91-71 2nd Place NL East, Wild Card.  Lost to Giants in NLDS

The Braves will look to build on their 2010 Wild Card season as they enter 2011 with hopes of unseating the Phillies from the top of the NL East.  Their biggest change from last season is new skipper Fredi Gonzalez who takes over for the legendary Bobby Cox.  Gonzalez has a knack for getting the most from a young lineup and he has a good mix of young talent and proven veterans at his disposal.
