Killin’ the Odds & the Regular Season

Welcome back to Killin’ the Odds & the Regular Season! In the “Today’s Games” section, you will see my picks to win for the day. I will post either the “Money Line” or the “Run Line”. The money line is always a “straight up” bet which means your team will never need to win or lose by a specific amount of runs. The money line odds represent what amount has to be wagered or what can be won. For example, if there is a minus sign (-) next to an amount, you have to wager that amount to win 100. If there is a plus sign (+) next to an amount, you will receive that amount for every 100 wagered. When you see a “Run Line”, that means a spread is involved. In Baseball, the spread is always 1.5 runs but you can find alternate run lines on some websites. When I post a run line of -1.5, that means our team must win by two runs. When you see a run line of +1.5, that means our team can lose by one run and still win the wager. Listen to our show from April 5th, 2011 for more explanation and tips.

Today’s Games (4/17/11)

Florida Marlins +1.5 (-130) @ Philadelphia Phillies -1.5 (+110) My Pick: Phillies Run Line
The last time these two teams had a series in Citizens Bank Park, the Phillies swept while scoring 25 runs in three games. Cole Hamels appears locked in and Anibal Sanchez has been terrible against the Phillies and on the road. I expect the Phillies to but up lots of runs today.
Los Angeles Angels (-108) @ Chicago White Sox (-102) My Pick: Angels Money Line
The White Sox were flat last night and looked like they wanted to go home. Haren has been sharp in the early going with a K:BB ratio of 21:2.
San Diego Padres (+113) @ Houston Astros (-123) My Pick: Houston Astros Money Line
Brett Myers is money at home but he needs to go at least 7 innings so he won’t have to rely on his bullpen. He went 8-0 with a 2.01 ERA in Minuet Maid Park last year. Clayton Richard wasn’t so hot on the road last year with a 4.41 ERA and 1.61 WHIP. The Astros offense is much better than the Padres offense.
