HOT

Adrian Gonzalez

Last 7 games: .433 Avg, 5 R, 0 HR, 7 RBI, 0 SB

Call: Buy

Of course, I say don’t expect the average but love the power so he hits for a better average and has no pop. Seriously though, buy this guy if you have the chance.

2011 Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Gems: American League

This week on Waiver Wire Gems – American League:

Jake Arrieta, SP Baltimore Orioles (27% owned in Yahoo, 36% ESPN)

Current Stat Line: 5 W / 1 L / 46 K / 4.03 ERA / 1.23 WHIP

His ERA won’t kill you and he’s winning games. Good K rate to go on top of it and you have yourself a nice back of the rotation pitcher available free on the wire in most leagues.

Projection: 14 W/ 6 L / 165 K / 3.95 ERA / 1.25 WHIP

HOT

Adrian Gonzalez

Last 7 games: .387 Avg, 9 R, 6 HR, 12 RBI, 0 SB

Call: Buy

Now don’t expect Adrian (I call him that because we are tight) to hit for this kind of average all year, but the power is legit. He’s back on track for a 40 homer season which looks about right with some line up protection for Gonzalez.

2011 Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Gems: American League

This week on Waiver Wire Gems – American League:

Bartolo Colon, SP New York Yankees (28% owned in Yahoo, 26% ESPN)

Current Stat Line: 2 W / 1 L / 33 K / 3.86 ERA / 1.23 WHIP

Ok. His last start was rough, but when I read about his stem cell procedure on his shoulder and elbow it made me think of the six million dollar man. So how could I in good conscience pull Steve Austin off of the list???!! In all honesty, shoot for Carmona as one of my readers previously suggested.

Projection: 12 W/ 8 L / 155 K / 3.95 ERA / 1.30 WHIP

HOT

Jose Reyes

Last 7 games: .419 Avg, 3 R, 0 HR, 5 RBI, 4 SB

Call: Buy

A new Jose sits atop the list this week! While the out of his mind batting average won’t continue, the steals will and he should generate some solid run production. If he stays healthy, he should have been a value pick in the draft.

2011 Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Gems: American League

This week on Waiver Wire Gems – American League:

Bartolo Colon, SP New York Yankees (33% owned in Yahoo, 44% ESPN)

Current Stat Line – 2 W / 1 L / 33 K / 3.00 ERA / 1.09 WHIP

Not a bad stat line for someone available on more than half the waiver wires out there. Looked dominant against the White Sox in his second outing and has given up 3 or fewer earned runs in each of his starts.

Projection: 12 W/ 8 L / 155 K / 3.95 ERA / 1.30 WHIP

HOT

Jose Bautista

Last 7 games: .350 Avg, 6 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 2 SB

Call: Buy

Repeat performer here on hot and cold. I may not be a fan, but the man is putting up stats! If you’re a lucky owner, hold on and enjoy the production.

2011 Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Gems: American League

Ok, I’ll admit it. I have at least 1 guy on my team that I drafted that hasn’t panned out. Now what, you ask? Now I show my waiver wire genius, that’s what.

Darren Oliver, RP Texas Rangers (20% owned in Yahoo, 22% ESPN)

Current Stat Line – 1 W / 2 L / 2 SV / 8 K / 2.38 ERA / 0.97 WHIP

Oliver has proven himself to be the man in Texas until Feliz returns. That will be soon, but if you are hurting for saves, Oliver would appear to be your guy in Texas for the short-term already converting his first 2 opportunities.

Projection: 3 W/ 3 L / 5 SV / 65 K / 2.58 ERA / 1.12 WHIP

HOT

Jose Bautista

Last 7 games: .400 Avg, 10 R, 4 HR, 4 RBI, 0 SB

Call: Buy

So I wasn’t a supporter of Mr. Bautista heading into the season. I still don’t think he’ll ever come close to last year’s home run totals again, but apparently he has found a way to remain a power hitter at this stage of his career. He won’t hit .400 for many stretches, but the power seems legit.

So your draft really wasn’t as good as you thought it was when you walked out of the war room?? Well here are some names that can help you save face.

Jed Lowrie, SS/2B Boston Red Sox (64% owned in Yahoo, 82% ESPN)

Current Stat Line – .432 AVG / 10 R / 3 HR / 12 RBI / 0 SB

In the better late than never category falls Jed Lowrie. He is highly owned at this point, but if he’s not in your league, grab him while the gettin is good. We mentioned Lowrie on the 4th and home show on Tuesday and his ownership has been booming. Could be a great plug-in as long as he can stay healthy.

Projection: .280 AVG / 70 R / 18 HR / 65 RBI / 1 SB
